COMNAVPERSCOM (PERS-806) will deliver appointments to MyNavy Career Center (MNCC) Millington approximately 60 days prior to the commissioning date. MNCC will forward appointments to the Transaction Service Center (TSC) Great Lakes, who will distribute directly to the respective Command Pay and Personnel Administrators. TSC Great Lakes will also process the conversion from enlisted to officer status for LDOs, for all commands other than those who have the ability to process their own (CVN, SPECWAR, etc.). Notify Enlisted Career Administration (PERS-803) via official correspondence not later than 10 days following release of this message of selectees who do not accept appointment. Selectees who decline their commission within this 10 day period will be considered by the FY-26 Enlisted Selection Boards. After the 10 day period, Boards Active Enlisted / Reserve Enlisted will invalidate all FY-26 Active-Duty Navy Nuclear LDO In Service Procurement Selection Board selectees' eligibility for the FY-26 Active-Duty Enlisted Selection Boards. c. Per reference (a), ensure LDO selectees obtain a commissioning physical within 90 days preceding the appointment month. Notify the Nuclear LDO detailer (PERS-422B) upon completion. d. Hold execution of all permanent change of station orders in abeyance, if applicable and immediately notify Enlisted Distribution Division of member's selection. e. Administer official Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) within 4 months of commissioning date. Selectees must hand carry test results to Officer Indoctrination School, Newport, RI. If selectee fails to achieve satisfactory medium, notify PERS-422B. Hold commissioning in abeyance until successful completion of PFA. f. Hold appointment in abeyance if it is determined that a selectee is no longer mentally, physically, morally or professionally qualified or if they fail to meet current PFA requirements. Immediately forward documentation citing reason to PERS-803. 6. If a Nuclear LDO selectee's enlistment (including any extensions) expires after the date of appointment, they are not reenlistment eligible unless appointment is declined. 7. US Navy Provides Preliminary Results to Residents Living Near Former NWIRP Calverton who had Drinking Water Wells Sampled
CALVERTON, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES 04.01.2025 From Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Mid-Atlantic Public Affairs CALVERTON, NY – The U.S. Navy shared preliminary drinking water well sample results to residents and property owners near the Former Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant (NWIRP) Calverton who consented to having their drinking water sampled and tested for certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS. To raise awareness about the water sampling initiative, the Navy conducted extensive community outreach efforts, culminating in an Open House event on January 22. During the event, residents received updates on the ongoing PFAS investigation and the residential drinking water sampling program. Outreach activities included publishing updates in local newspapers and various publications, distributing informational materials through public libraries, and sharing notices via the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) environmental news bulletin. Additionally, letters and postcards were mailed directly to homeowners. Environmental contractors began on-site sampling of private drinking water wells on January 23. As of now, nearly all drinking water well sample results have been below the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for PFAS. The sole exception was a well sampled in 2019, which showed slightly elevated PFAS levels above the EPA MCL. The resident associated with this well opted to decline re-sampling at this time. “Although these preliminary results are encouraging, we will carry out a comprehensive quality control review of all collected data and will consult with NYSDEC and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) before final results are released to the public,” said Addison Phoenix, the Navy’s project manager for the site. “The Navy remains dedicated to safeguarding the health and well-being of its neighbors and will continue investigating emerging chemicals in and around Former NWIRP Calverton, as necessary.” If you own property within the Navy’s designated sampling area and haven’t yet had your drinking water well sampled, please call (800) 906-9339 to request and schedule a sampling appointment. (Note: If your drinking water is supplied by the Riverhead Water District, sampling is not required. The Navy is currently offering sampling for drinking water wells in both the original and expanded sampling areas).
