I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, but the initial notification should be private.  A Sailor shouldn't be put on the spot in front of their command.  Those who aren't selected deserve a moment of privacy to be disappointed so they go support those that made it.  Just my opinion.

It doesn’t come off wrong... I like it that way but we all have our opinions. I’m used to no notification at all, and I think knowing who made it, informs those who didn’t. if you up and walk away, no one would stop you and you could have your space/privacy...

Hello, Mrs. :) I am way more anxious than I thought I'd be (more than in the past few years). Being a long distance SO makes is tough to gauge how my sailor is coping but I think he's dealing with it by not thinking about it much. For me Selection means he will possibly get stationed even farther from me and he will go back to sea duty sooner rather than later, however I want him to get the S for his own career and self betterment. It's a tough wait. I may have a cocktail or two tonight.

Hey, Laura! I can only imagine how difficult it is for you being long distance. Go ahead and have those drinks, I think I’m going to opt for a sleeping pill! Lol Wishing you all the best!

One year, my notification went like this:

Phone rings, I answer it. It was my LCPO. "Hey ET1, do you know why I'm calling?"
Me: "Yeah, to tell me I didn't make Chief."
LCPO: "Oh, so you already know?"

Me: "No."
LCPO: "Then what makes you think that?"
Me: "Because if I made it, it would be the CMC on the phone instead of you."
LCPO: "Well, you're not wrong."

Yikes! I would not want to be in a room with all the other first classes when they announce the results.

I would like to touch on an area....

rememeber, if you don’t make it, it is not about you. Please be happy for the ones that made it. After all we are all friends and peers. Yes, if i get the N i will be disappointed but that should not steal from the selects nor should it burden my family. The initial thought that goes through my head when i have received the N in the past is “ F&@$&, then excitement for the selects, then i start immediately thinking of what i can improve for next year because that clock starts right away.

Just look at American Ninja warrior, or the olympics or any sport... when another team ( which we are a team) wins, the others celebrate and the other team starts thinking of what they can improve on. They give great interviews and hug their family along with congratulating the other team.

remember WE are the BEST team, so we should not be any different.

good luck to ALL and hope WE all get the S.

You still have to keep in mind that everyone processes it differently. I personally take a little time to process and would not want to hold anyone back from celebrating. This also doesn't mean I am not happy for them. I personally don't like to process my disappointment while trying to congratulate some else. I think it comes off as fake.

It sucks to have duty today, I can’t stop thinking about what could I be missing, why not me this time, Then the little devil on my shoulder says “you don’t have a chance they only selected 13”. My main goal tomorrow is to congratulate the selected. Then head home to take a few drinks to ease the disappointment if not selected. And set up my next plan of attack to be even a better first class (sorry guys just a PO1 venting) and I think I’m in the right place. Good luck brother and sisters.

Just wanna come on and say good luck to all.. hope tomorrow brings good news.. hopefully my decision of doing all the jobs no one wanted too, pays off. If not, two more looks and keep pushing and training my sailors.

I agree... It is not like it is ill will against someone, I would just need time to breathe and gather my thoughts!

Wonder how many are ironing whites and NSU's tonight  hoping for good news tomorrow.

My command never put out any expectations of what uniforms to have ready, and after talking to a guy who made it last year, he wasn't informed of what to have ready in advance either. He was told he needed to run home and get his PT uniform with only 20 minutes before he had to be at an entirely different base to start the season.

All we know here is you better have PT gear with you or stand by. Worst part about tomorrow is it's my duty day. So anything else for the next day, will be a pain to get together (If I get the S). If not, have plenty of time to improve even more. Have kinda kept quiet the last 80 pages due to being short on the years.

I think I will have a PT bag ready for command PT wink wink .

Nope. Not going to jynx anything.

Yeah, tomorrow will determine if I need to buy a new neckerchief or not after my pup chewed up the last one.  I just know I heard the new selects last year to have whites ready.

I have been told nothing. So either they don’t expect me to make it or they’re playing it really close to the vest. So either they don’t expect me to make it or they’re playing it really close to the vest

They may just be keeping close to the vest. My command has said nothing to any of the firsts that are eligible. In fact, the chiefs have become more distant, we haven't had any CPO-365 or Sailor 360, or what ever the training is called these days in months.

True, And it’s also rough seeing as my senior chief is the phase 2 coordinator

Don't know what to tell you. I'm to the point that I just accept that I'm not going to be selected, and haven't actually put much stock into it. Didn't even realize that results were close until Friday afternoon when the wife asked me about it.

If I do get selected, I'd be going through most of the season without all but 2 or 3 Chiefs from my command since I'm stay back crew.  But I'd be going through it with the rest of NASWI.  Just have to wait till tomorrow, and see.  If I don't get a call then I know better luck next year.  No skin off my back as I'm already past 20.  Best of luck to all tomorrow, and try to get some sleep tonight.

I'm not expecting a call, just to find out when my command releases an email to congratulate those that did get selected. And as my rate is one of 4 that didn't get extended to 22 HYT, I'm just that much closer to retirement.

Interesting, I didn't read enough into the NAVADMIN.  I thought the HYT change was Navy wide.

Nuclear rates require approval for a HYT waiver to exceed 20 years. The detailer said he hasn't herd of anyone applying for it, so it is unknown if it would be approved.

My command is having a chief meeting right after the results come out. And then 4 hours later gathering the selection board eligible firsts to give us the results. So it will be an interesting morning. I actually am standing a UI with my chief tomorrow also.

i am assuming there is no way to find out results before the command tells us either, correct?

So hopefully the day goes well. We wil see what happens. I hope everyone gets the S. If not, it is time for reflection and looking at the precepts to see how to better improve for next year.

Yeah, I remember how that was my attitude 8 tests ago.  You get numb to it after awhile.
