Does the MCPON scandal have to do with this ?

Very much doubt that that its the case. He stepped down the day after the board convened, so as to not disrupt any processes.

This may have been answered.. But there are so many pages haha...  I am a spouse by the way... Does the MCPON scandal have to do with this ? Is there still a chance for tomorrow ? Or is it officially next week or a rumor for next week? It would be a great anniversary present ..  HT is only making 18 people...  Say, a 95 % score on the test, decent evals, instructor at one of the only C schools in the Navy for a certain rate, and after a storm he was able to start his class late for student to get there from SC, they all graduated before the course was done. He was in contact with a few Master Chief's over this. Will all this help him in the long run? He has made board 5 times, this hope the 5th time is the charm...

I don't know if these questions are allowed, but please give me some insight.

Thanks everyone!!

All indications are that they simply got behind schedule and planned it for the 8th. The Navy get's behind schedule sometimes just as @MannyTheET gets behind on matters of the ET kind. 😂

The chances of results coming out tomorrow are almost zero. My command put out results will be next week. Unfortunately scoring high on the test will not make a difference, that will only help with your FMS (final multiple score = evaluation average + exam score) which will determine if you are selection board eligible. I have scored in the 98 percentile and not been advanced.  Evaluations will have a huge part in it, just know that the score on the evaluation (EP, MP, P) isn't everything the content is more important.  It seems to come down to "checks in the block" that sailors either do or don't have, leadership, sailorization, qualifications, collateral duties, anything that makes you a leader in your peer group etc. They look for the best and fully qualified to select.  Being an instructor should help him as long as he is doing well.  You could write a small book about how the selection  process works = S

Wow, good post!

As a submarine electrician, we are done around 13%. However, board eligible aren’t all advancement eligible. Not all are qualified EWS. That makes the advancement number slightly higher.

How was everyone else’s day? Mine was long... 7 to 19. Just got done showering and feel so much better. So much work to do. Choose your rate...

So this is actually a question I've had that no one at my command has been able to answer. The numbers used in calculating the percent on the quota sheet is just board eligible, correct? So if someone isn't qualified their supervisory NEC or EWS in that pool, it's actually ballooning the number is what I think you're saying. Right?

Finally got around to making an account, first time eligible here. It's not a convenient year for me to make it (baby #3 due start of september), but even still, I would be very happy and I'm sure my pride would take a big hit if I dont. Here's to the 8th!

For those of you wondering what the board is looking for...(and for those who get a different answer every time you ask a chief)...I encourage you to pull out your Navy Eval & Fitrep Writing Guide (mine is the fifth edition, from 2008). Chapter 12, Pages 245-253 go over the specific grading and criteria of the Chief selection boards, explaining what gets you the most points on the grading. May not be exactly how they grade or what they look for but it is good to have some awareness on how much weight is given to specific items.

39.7% the highest I’ve ever seen it.  I definitely feel as if I’m top 39% of the board eligible STGs.

I went back to 2008 and it's the highest it's been. I couldn't believe it was that high when I saw it and had to double check.

Thought I was looking at conventional FC

The real best kept secret is that @Tony is actually the CNO and he's waiting on the fulfillment of the 100 page prophecy to release them results

Pssst......they already made the selections.

Just kidding around.  That’s great you are able to find meaning in your work.  Hope you make it and don’t dive into a career spiral of test, package, board, test package board.

Speaking of staying busy and vicious cycles, I've been at my command for about a year and a half now.  We are currently billeted for 295 Sailors and we are manned at 606 as of yesterday.  I am the Personnel Officer, and the only billeted PS for the command.  I've begged and pleaded to CMSID (I'm the AMM for the command) for even another E4 permanent party.  Unfortunately, I'm told each time that on paper we are only required to have one PS1 per the numbers.  I have 4 out of rate pregnant Sailors firehose trained to handle peoples money and careers.  They work so hard, but ultimately we spend the majority of our time training;  Just for them to go on leave, transfer and send me a new pregnant Sailor.  And with all of the recent and upcoming changes to PSD's and personnel (which I got a chance to sit with the N2 CO 2 weeks ago and will gladly share with anyone interested) I truly think we need big changes to happen with the fleet manning plans.

While I would be honoured to make Chief, I know there are several other commands in similar situations and it worries me about what's going to happen if I pick it up and the Navy decides that I'm needed somewhere else.  My billet was gapped before and the position became a hot fill because so many Sailors were suffering.

Hopefully my rant will help out

You got it. The number in the "Eligible" column simply represents the number of people that scored high enough to make board. Not everyone of those will be considered fully qualified.

Any chance you could use an app like Tiny Scanner to make a pdf of the scoring section of the book and post it here?

Long posts divided in multiple... we’ll tell @Tony is “to avoid overloading the server” (which I imagine is a fat and sweaty hamster spinning a wheel)

I will take my book home with me today and get it all scanned in as a PDF and will upload. It is just shy of 1300 here so I should be able to post it within a few hours!

The problem with that is that there is no more grading the packages before the tank.  Every package gets reviewed now.

Well here we are again but look at the bright side. :5272: Have a great weekend and enjoy life. I for one and looking forward to spending some fun family time with my wife and our 5 kids, get some yard work done if it ever stops raining long enough, grill up some steaks, drink a few cold ones 🍺 and sit around the fire pit and enjoy the evening.

Now here's a mindset I can get behind. Eat some animals and drink to the foam. :graphics-3d-smileys-741483:

Yup. There is no NEC for EWS. The board has to scrub the record looking for it. For myself, this is my 4th time making board, but only 2nd time having EWS. For 2 years, I was one of those inflation numbers.

The detailer road show that came around just recently mentioned a push to create an NEC for EWS. It was make the board eligible list a little better.

But isn't every package still being graded while in the tank?

So talked with one of my MC that sat the 8 board and got some info about my situation. He said one reason I might not have been selected in years past due to not being in rate. I said I thought this didnt matter but was informed some take this into account as they want to see 3 years concecutive in rate. I have bounced from recruiting, riverines, back to the fleet, and than converted to NC and only been an NC for 2 years. He said he wasnt saying I wont pick up this year but if not he would bet money on me next year as he feels I should have picked up years ago as well after looking over my record and package with  me.  Not the news I wanted to hear but made me feel good knowing something at least to go off of.  He said keep doing what I am doing because I am doing it right and its just a matter of time which he said he knows is not what I want to hear but he said he felt my pain as it took him 5 looks to pick up as well. He did say that once I pick up 7 if I continue my track I am looking really good for 8 and I can make up the time lost on the back end where some struggle.

Morning all from the PACNORWEST. Long time eavesdropper here. My SEL just stated via FLT that results WILL be released Monday. This is different then anything I have read on here.  Can anyone else confirm this info. My SEL has never led me wrong.
