First time posting but something weird happened today so I wanted to gets some of my fellow first classes opinions. A master chief contacted me today and asked if I wanted to go to Italy I said ok sure so he told me to send my last few evals and apply on CMSID. The weird part is that I still got a year and half on my sea duty left so I’m not up for orders. I’m just wondering if this means I made chief

I could be wrong but I am assuming that's not the case, I feel like they would rather wait the weekish that we have left to ask that question if they knew you made Chief than to give up the integrity of the board. There really isn't much time saving, in my opinion, that would be achieved by starting the process now.

Maybe admiral requested you by name? Either way italy is awesome and I loved it there!

Yeah probably right I was supposed to go to another sea command if I didn’t make it I’ve been at sea for 7 years so they just found away to get me to a cool shoreduty early.

Community managers and detailers are not permitted to sit the selection board due to a potential perceived conflict of interest (I.e “I need this guy to make CPO to fill a billet”). I’d say there’s a 99.9999999% chance this person has any clue as to the board outcome and the question is completely unrelated to you being selected or not.

It's amazing how we are able to completely convince ourselves 100% that we made it, only to then completely convince ourselves that we have no chance only 15 minutes later.

First time up so I just convinced myself I didn’t make it, and hopefully will be surprised

I thought something similar was happening to me last year. I was up for orders. Applied 5 times first window, nothing. 5 times second window, nothing. Chief results were coming out between second and third window, so I convinced myself the only reason I hadn't been picked for anything yet was because the detailer knew I was making Chief and wanted me to apply to Chief billets in my third window. Welp, here I am. Still a PO1! 😆

I am still sticking with an August 3rd date to the triad seeing that it will put it right at 6 weeks but who knows, things might get changed up this year.  Good luck to all as the release date gets closer and closer.

I doubt the triad release is going to be a Saturday. IMHO

2nd time up here. 9.5 years in. Last 5 evals are frocked MP, new command 3.0 P, ranked MP, ranked EP, transfer EP. All other evals previously are EPs. Division LPO of 30+ Sailors for 3 years, and very strong mission-side accomplishments. Got my Associate's Degree in Sep 2014, will have Bachelor's next year. FCPOA officer last year, CPO365 involvement but no position held, and Command Financial Specialist since 2015. All documented. No NJPs or PFA failures. We'll see.

Yeah I would be shocked if I made it because I don’t think I have all my ducks in a row. If I don’t make chief it will be awesome to go to Italy

Ive got a question for those who’ve served out of rate jobs. Was with the Seabees for a few years. Awesome write ups, but being a fish out of water, I got two P’s in a row. And then a transfer EP of course. Pretty much my only blemish the past 8 years or so. But I was in charge of around 60 sailors, 66 first classes on the watch bill. VP for fcpoa. And it’s all documented. Any thoughts from others who’ve been in a similar situation?

I do this all of the time, I am usually correct about the second part, as you can see I am still in here rambling about what I have, trying to figure out what I am missing

I have been doing really well not thinking about it but now that I have finished up taking four classes in 8 weeks to get my BS degree I have nothing but time and cant help myself. Guess I made it to the final week before I had to start stressing which is better than years past. 8 years as a FCPO and I am ready to move up. I am not getting my hopes up this year as it is hard to get told no when everyone who has looked over my record with me (CMC, MCPO, SCPO, CPO) say everything is good to go. When everyone tells me they hope I make it because I already act and work as a Chief, and the family legacy of many many Chiefs. (Father, GrandFather, Great Great Grandfather, Uncles) I would like to continue serving and making the Navy better. I know I can do this as a FCPO but lets face it who doesnt want to be a Chief.

I agree, for an enlisted person to not want to make Chief is like an officer not wanting to make Admiral. Why did you join if you don't want to be considered a proven leader? You can have a great career, but if you don't put on the anchors, you're going to fill like you could have done more.

Expand

Yes and now that I completed my BS degree if I dont pick up Chief I am looking at submitting an Officer package. Problem with that is I have 15 years so outside LDO, Im 35 so outside most designators for OCS other than Intel, IP, OceanO, PAO, AMDO. My degree(Business) and rate (AO/NC) dont make me the most competitive for these. Its fustrating when you want to do more but the Navy has limitations on the paths you can go.

Oh and while we are throwing dates out there I am going to go with the 31 July. Word I got from a few Chiefs.
