  4. September 18, 2017 In April in Millington, Tennessee, a cadre of master chiefs was wrapping up the E-9 selection board, an annual rite when the fleet’s most respected sailors convene behind closed doors to select a new crop of senior enlisted members to lead the chiefs mess. But just as the list of new master chiefs was being finalized, top Navy officials received a stunning email from an anonymous whistleblower. The explosive allegations claimed that at least two of the board-sitting master chiefs had conspired to violate board rules and lobby outside the Navy’s traditional selection process to advance their preferred senior chief. https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2017/09/18/rigging-the-e-9-board/

  9. WASHINGTON – Seventy-five years ago this week, 19-year-old Seaman 2nd Class Daryl Weathers was aboard the USS Abner Read in the bay off the Aleutian Islands, patrolling for Japanese submarines when an explosion – likely an enemy mine – ripped apart the destroyer. https://www.stripes.com/news/stern-of-us-destroyer-found-near-alaska-as-researchers-map-little-known-campaign-of-wwii-1.542829
  10. I'm throwing the SSP in the mix again folks. I think two of us mentioned about that "Add 1%" which can be significant and now I want to add my 2 cents worth for your future growth. For those that supervise, if you were to apply this to your workers, it would be helping them, you, and the mission. If throughout the year, you had then focus on only one thing that they are having a hard time with (such as being later or anything), you would hopefully get a return in that they are self-improving. So it's not about you constantly getting them to achieve that 1%, it's about getting them to achieve that 1%! Hopefully less work for you too in that you are only monitoring but maybe sometimes mentoring. Next, if you could get your people to keep a diary of their achievements, quals, etc, that is updated weekly, it will reduce your time doing evals, awards, recommendations, etc. It also helps give a clear path to what you have done not for yourself, but for the mission (Keep a copy of that mission statement too if your command has it.) Cool!! I kept this short and simple so that maybe someone will read it! Can you add to your plan of improvement? 6 Best Practices To Sustain Superior Performance

  12. So you are on hold, possibly from a legal scrub. This has happened to members on this forum including last year. He made Chief. You need to find out from your command what is the deal. Hang in there. For the person last year, and a few others, it took some time to straighten things out, just a heads up.
  13. AS a reminder, Selectees on this FY-19 list, who wish to join the Chief's group can PM me direct. It's the Chiefs that need to be verified using the instruction on the Chief's page.
