There's a link on BOL, but only those who are board members/recorders have access. Unless there's a different module somewhere.

Yeah, we'll need to clarify that. Not sure myself, thanks.

I was able to navigate the recording/selection board process on BOL about 3 months ago. I believe anybody can have access to it.

I was able to access it a few month back. After seeing it recommended several times the last few years I finally looked it up. Did not open up for me last year, but this year it let me on. I realized why it was heavily recommended. There is a lot of good information on it.

On another note. It is getting a little hard to keep my head up. The quotas are down for my rate; the lowest they have been in four years. I am in the process of handing off all my collateral duties to others. Trying to set up others for rankings and eval time. Looking at the next year as if I am not going to make it so that I am ready if I don't. I am proud of what I have done and accomplished. I am proud of what my sailors have done and accomplished. There is still time even if I don't make it to help my sailors out before the Navy and I part ways. Those three things are what help keep my head up. But, doing everything as if you are not going to make it does not help keeping a positive outlook. Okay, I am done with my sob story. Just need to vent a little.

It is one of the issues with this forum software that I am having. No worries, if I see a double post I delete it it...

The only requirement to do the training is to choose the email certificate on your CAC card. I took the training as an FCPO so I know you can access it.

I guess it was a good idea to make this list!

I jokingly asked another member if they were on a ship experiencing high winds and heavy seas.

This is what I have so far. I'll re-post Monday too.

CPO "Required Reading" List

  • (FY) CPO 365 Guidance
  • Last FY's Precept and convening order

CPO "To Do" Check List

  • Log into CMSID, go to your personal history tab and see how your history looks to detailers. If you have a weak spot, such as school, make an effort to attend that school.
  • Selection board/recorder training that gets brought up every year.
  • Any communication (mainly NAVADMINs) to the board including associated references. (Is there an example, or can you explain more?)

That would explain it also. Along with turbulence, being click happy, or what is being said is so awesome that it has to be said twice to contain all of the awesomeness.

The example for communication to the board can be found at this link: http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/boards/activedutyenlisted/Pages/GeneralInformation.aspx

This link doesn't change from year to year and explains the LTB as well as provides examples. Hope this helps.

The ppt linked at the top of that page is a wealth of knowledge, especially the FAQs and selection board myths section.

The slides answer almost 75% of the general questions that get brought up from year to year in here.

Good morning everyone OS1 arriving,

This is my first time posting on here, I will be up for chief next year, but I am taking steps now to correct issues in my record. My question is do any of you have special evals uploaded to your ompf. Mine was for me to establish pma to take the OS3 exam. that is the only eval I am missing, however when I check the continuity report on bol, it says that I have no eval gaps. I am still going to submit it, just wanted to see if anyone had a special eval uploaded to their ompf.

If you have no eval gaps based on BOL continuity, I'm not sure what you're missing. Is it in NSIPS? Could be filed under an abnormal code in your OMPF.

Either way, you have plenty of time to get the eval added to your OMPF before next cycle. By that, I mean you shouldn't just put it off and submit a E-3 PMA eval with your LTB "next" year. Take care of it now.

IMHO, that would have to be one hell of an eval write up to have any tangible bearing on a CPO selection board.

What are everyone's thoughts on the "Navy Crimes" story titled "INSTANT CHIEFS – The controversial plan to promote civilians to E-7 & O-6 straight off the street"?

I'd say this will be the first mile-marker for our new MCPON. Interesting to see what the outcome will be. My $0.02 says it'll never happen, at least not while I still lace up my boots each morning, but stranger things have happened on my haze grey trip around the block.

Sounds more like a duffel blog story than anything credible.

It'll definitely be interesting to see. Not sure how I feel about trying for 16 years to become a Chief, then someone comes along just puts it on because of civilian experience. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a little more to being a Chief than technical experience.

The Navy has been using direct accessions for a long time.  Certain musicians have entered the Navy as E-6, and the medical community has been using it for medical and dental officers for years.

My personal opinion...  The way I kinda see this playing out...  The Navy will use direct accession in a similar fashion for these cyber folks.  Bring them in as E-5 or E-6, and let them earn their anchors the right way... same with officers, bring them in at LT or LCDR and let them earn those leadership billets.
