The Trump administration’s major military mission at the southern border focused on reducing immigration and drug flows has already cost taxpayers more than $300 million, according to sources briefed on data from the Defense Department comptroller — even as the administration has vowed to slash the size of government and cut 8 percent from the department’s budget. In just the first month, the Pentagon spent roughly $250 million dollars, a source briefed on the cost and two other people familiar with the matter told CNN, including deportation flights on US military aircraft, the deployment of thousands of additional troops and the expansion of detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay.

“However, after examining the migrant relocation activities at Guantanamo Bay, we are outraged by the scale and wastefulness of the Trump Administration’s misuse of our military. It is obvious that Guantanamo Bay is a likely illegal and certainly illogical location to detain immigrants. Its use is seemingly designed to undermine due process and evade legal scrutiny. “The staggering financial cost to fly these immigrants out of the United States and detain them at Guantanamo Bay—a mission worth tens of millions of dollars a month—is an insult to American taxpayers. President Trump could implement his immigration policies for a fraction of the cost by using existing ICE facilities in the U.S., but he is obsessed with the image of using Guantanamo, no matter the cost.

A former Navy detective sentenced earlier this year for using excessive force on a detained sailor now faces another charge – attempting to produce child pornography. Jonathan Christopher Laroche, 41, of Spring Valley, is accused in a complaint filed in federal court of describing sexually abusing a child and recording the abuse in a series of online messages.

Trump administration officials, including both Waltz and Ratcliffe, have repeatedly insisted that no classified information was shared in the text. Ratcliffe, in his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, specifically referenced his text about “starting points.” But current and former officials have disagreed vehemently with that assessment: The kinds of information in not just Hegseth’s texts, but Ratcliffe’s and Waltz’s, included very clear references to sources and methods. Even if it wasn’t an explicit or technical description, these people say, it is information that the US government would typically withhold because it might allow an adversary to make an educated interference about US sources and methods.

Some military spouses who work in the federal government were notified by their respective agencies this week their remote work exceptions were being rescinded, despite them being granted just days or weeks earlier, several military spouses told CNN. The guidance from the Office of Personnel Management, the federal government’s Human Resources department, that would have forced them to return to the office was changed Thursday after a CNN inquiry into the matter. Military spouses now expect orders from their agencies will ultimately reflect change again, after weeks of whiplash that left military spouses in the federal workforce deeply worried about their jobs.

Judge Benjamin Settle became the second federal judge to block the policy. If allowed to go into effect, the Trump administration's new policy on transgender soldiers would be a "de facto blanket prohibition" that seeks "to eradicate transgender service," a federal judge wrote Thursday in issuing a preliminary injunction against the policy. In a 65-page opinion issued late Thursday, U.S. District Judge Benjamin Settle became the second federal judge to block the policy, which he described as discriminatory and disconnected from the goals of "military readiness, unit cohesion, lethality, or any of the other touchstone phrases long used to exclude various groups from service."

CFL/ACFLs, CSV File Update: Due to recent PRIMS development, the use of the CSV file has slightly changed. When uploading CSV file(s) for PFA Cycle 2025, CFLs must now separate the CSV file(s) between with medical waiver data and without medical waiver data. For clarity, you cannot upload a single CSV file with mixed data. CFLs will need to upload two different CSV files. Additionally, PFA data which needs to be uploaded for previous PFA Cycles (2024 or earlier), can be submitted to askmncc.fct@navy.mil utilizing the CSV file(s) guidance above (separated by medical waiver and without medical waiver data). CFLs are reminded that all CSV files must be submitted along with the Letter of Correction (LOC) signed by the CO/OIC. It is very important to follow the CSV file directions exactly as indicated to avoid any upload failures. Updated/current guidance can be found under the PRIMS Training link, then CSV File Directions.

The White House continues to largely dismiss a highly sensitive discussion by leading national security officials on the open-source encrypted Signal messaging app that leaked to a reporter. At a White House briefing Wednesday, press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the media "continues to be focused on a sensationalized story from the failing Atlantic magazine that is falling apart by the hour." But the leak of operational details lands a little differently with military veterans and especially with active-duty troops, who can be discharged and prosecuted for much lower-level leaks. Security breaches like what happened in the Signal group chat are called "spillage" by the military.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The top Republican and Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee requested an investigation Thursday into how Trump national security officials used the Signal app to discuss military strikes and a federal judge said he would order the preservation of the messages, ensuring at least some scrutiny on an episode President Donald Trump has dismissed as frivolous. Sen. Roger Wicker, the Republican chair of the committee, and Sen. Jack Reed, the top Democrat, signed onto a letter to the acting inspector general at the Department of Defense for an inquiry into the potential “use of unclassified networks to discuss sensitive and classified information, as well as the sharing of such information with those who do not have proper clearance and need to know.”

I happen to notice that the two prior selection boards on the MyNavyHR CPO page did not have precepts but that the current one, FY26, does have a precept. I've added it in case someone wants to take a look. FY-26 Active Duty Navy and Reserve Senior Enlisted Advancement Selection/Marketplace Screen Boards Precept

"This is all to the good," Reyes said. "But let's recall that our service members make the debate and appeals possible. Their sacrifices breathe life into the phrase, ‘one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.’ The Court, again, thanks them all." A federal judge denied President Donald Trump’s administration’s efforts to ban transgender people from joining the military, which was set to go into effect Friday. The Department of Justice has since filed a notice of appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeal for the District of Columbia.
