Each course normally requires one academic year to complete, which runs from September through the following May. All three courses are not offered simultaneously at all locations. The NWC FSP will be offered in 18 regional locations in the United States for academic year 2023-2024. Seminars meet once a week in the evening for 34 weeks. Completion of all three courses results in the award of a College of Naval Command and Staff diploma, as well as credit for JPME-I. The FSP also provides a path to attain the NWC Masters Degree through the College of Distance Education (CDE) Graduate Degree Program (GDP). FSP students may apply for the GDP following successful completion of their first FSP course. The FSP at all locations are conducted in-step with each other, so students who transfer to or are assigned temporary additional duty at another location may attend class at the new location. 3. NWC accepts program applications from commissioned officers (active and reserve) and civilian employees of the federal government, subject to the following eligibility requirements: (1) Members of the sea services (Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard) in the paygrade of O-3 or above, while officers from the other services must be in the paygrade of O-4 or above. Not only is the process easy and convenient, but it will also help prevent excess prescription waste. “The TRICARE Pharmacy Program streamlined the home delivery refill process, so you only get your medications when you need them,” said Marcy Opstal, a senior program analyst with the Defense Health Agency’s Pharmacy Operations Division. “Having patients approve their refills before they’re shipped also improves patient safety and reduces medication waste.”

The FBI arrested David Elizalde on Sunday in Arlington, Virginia, on misdemeanor charges, including disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, according to a court filing.
  5. Today, the Department of Defense announced a new non-chargeable, paid bereavement leave benefit for service members who suffer the loss of their spouses or children. Directive-type Memorandum 23-003 –"Bereavement Leave for Service Members" implements the policy and procedures for the administration of bereavement leave for service members across the Department of Defense. The new leave benefit is authorized in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022. The loss of a spouse or child has detrimental effects on a service member’s ability to perform assigned duties. Bereavement leave is designed to allow service members time away from their military duties to make arrangements required by the tragic death of their spouses or children and to attend their funeral, burial, or memorial service. Service members will be afforded the opportunity to take up to two weeks of leave in connection with the death of a service member’s spouse or child, consistent with operational requirements. Specifically, an active and reserve component service member (on active duty for longer than 12 months) who experience the death of a spouse or child and who has fewer than 30 days of accrued ordinary leave on the date of the death is eligible for up to 14 consecutive days of bereavement leave. Based on the law, this benefit is only available to service members with accrued leave balances below 30 days. Thus, a service member with a leave balance of 30 or more days may take chargeable emergency leave as they would in the past. However, if, while on emergency leave, his or her balance falls below 30 days, the service member will become eligible for the bereavement leave benefit of up to 14 days. The new bereavement leave benefit applies to all eligible service members on or after the effective date of DTM 23-003 (i.e., March 29). Also, a retroactive provision in DTM 23-003 is available to service members for this new benefit. For a service member whose spouse or child died on or after June 25, 2022 and before the effective date of DTM 23-003, and who was charged leave taken in connection with the death will have those leave days of up to 14 days restored to his or her leave balance if the service member would have been eligible for bereavement leave. Additionally, for a service member who took emergency leave in connection with the death of a spouse or child after the effective date of DTM 23-003 but before his or her respective military service releases its bereavement leave policy, will have those emergency leave days of up to 14 days restored to his or her leave balance if the service member would have been eligible for bereavement leave. Service members are encouraged to contact their military service for more specifics on the administration of the new bereavement leave benefit.

Bush Carrier Strike Group will remain in the Mediterranean longer than seven months after Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin elected to extend its deployment, USNI News has learned. The strike group, which includes carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77), Carrier Air Wing 7 and its escorts, will stay to provide options to policymakers following the recent attacks in Syria, Reuters first reported. A Navy official confirmed the extended deployment to USNI News on Monday.

Award. This unique award is intended to recognize a representative from three critical areas of Mr. Feller's life: his MLB career, his service in the Navy as a CPO, and his enshrinement in the NBHOF. Accordingly, the award will be presented to one active MLB player, one CPO, and one member of the NBHOF. The Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation will also recognize a group of Sailors, 18-25 years-old, who have most effectively worked together as a team (in either a personal or professional capacity) to promote peer-to-peer mentorship and a reduction in Sailor destructive decision making and behavior in both afloat and ashore categories. The awards will be presented at the Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. on 16 November 2023. 4. Eligibility and selection criteria.   13. NAVAL STATION NORFOLK, Virginia — On Navy ships docked at this vast base, hundreds of sailors in below-deck mazes of windowless passageways perform intense, often monotonous manual labor. It’s necessary work before a ship deploys, but hard to adjust to for many already challenged by the stresses plaguing young adults nationwide. Growing mental health distress in the ranks carries such grave implications that the U.S. chief of naval operations, Adm. Michael Gilday, answered “suicides” when asked earlier this year what in the security environment kept him up at night.

Former Navy SEAL and Silver Star recipient Douglas “Mike” Day, who suffered 27 gunshots while deployed to Iraq in 2007, has died. “We mourn the loss of an outstanding Naval Special Warfare teammate, former Senior Chief Mike Day,” a Naval Special Warfare Command spokeswoman said in an email to Navy Times. “His courage and grit formed the standard we uphold in the community today, and we will always remember his service to the special operations community.”
  15. A sailor assigned to USS Montana (SSN-794) died by suicide, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Tidewater, Va., region told USNI News on Thursday. Electronics Technician Navigation 3rd Class (ETV3) Devon Faehnrich was pronounced dead at Riverside Regional Medical Center after being found on the pier next to the submarine at Newport News Shipbuilding. Faehnrich died from a gunshot wound to the head, Donna Price, spokesperson for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said in the statement to USNI News. Faehnrich reported to Montana on March 30, 2022, after attending submarine school, according to his official Navy biography. He enlisted in the Navy in April 2021.

  17. I'm reading the FY-24 Active Duty and Reserve Senior Enlisted Advancement Selection/Marketplace Precept, haven't read them in a long time. If my memory serves me correct, they are providing a lot more detailed information than what I remember from years ago. You may want to take a peak. Complaints that I remember back then were that the precepts provided no information. I think that has changed.

  19. The Navy has publicly identified the sailor who died Monday after being found injured on a pier as an investigation into the death continues. Electronics Technician Navigation 3rd Class Devon Faehnrich, who was assigned to the submarine USS Montana, was found by a fellow sailor at the shipyard at Newport News, Virginia, before being taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

All 10 Navy regions have introduced maintenance QR code reporting to unaccompanied housing facilities. Instead of walking to the building quarterdeck to report maintenance issues in-person or writing them down in a logbook, Sailors can scan their building’s unique QR code, posted in the living spaces and common areas, to fill out a brief online form and report maintenance problems that require attention from building management.

Michael Villarroel, 48, of Coronado, is one of 10 people to plead guilty in a scheme that bilked the Traumatic Servicemembers Groups Life Insurance Program out of around $2 million.
