This is good info. The whole career summary letter thing is interesting. There are some who swear by it. I guess it can't hurt though.

I find it funny that he told me to send it in, and told me each time he made rank he had one in, and when he didn’t put one in he didn’t get selected. He said I don’t think that’s the reason, but I believe it helped. Now that he came back he said “not needed” lol

anything you put on there has to be verifiable. God forbid you mess something up there, now they think you’re trying to embellish your record.

So basically if you made a mistake earlier in your career as a young sailor and if you recovered,  I've been in 11.5 years , I made mistakes cause I was young and dumb  10 years ago now I'm killing it after those hiccups .

I think you’ll be ok Brother. I have a hiccup too (not NJP) but a drop from MP to 3.0 P 5 years ago. I’ve recovered since, but if they were to compare me to an equally qualified Sailor with 0 “bad reviews” , they’d pick him/her as I would be the squeaky wheel.

We had three MC's who did board package review and they all encouraged NOT to send in a CSL. The system that is used at the board already pulls most of the same info from your record and prints out a report anyways. Your comment about "record embellishment" was actually part of the feedback that the whole FCPO mess got from the MC's. Anything that you put in your CSL will be verified against your evals. If something doesn't match, it just makes your package that much harder to grade and also could potentially bring questions into the mind of the grader.

Yeah I'm telling you I was so surprised. All of them that talked to me told me not to send one. He literally went through about 6 of my evals line for line and critiqued all of them. He said that they already have enough to look at and that putting a career summary is just something extra to look at.

Actually not true. I asked this same question to the MCPO that looked at my record and he said they like to see the bounce back. He told me not to worry about my NJP since it was 5 years ago while I was an E5. What he did say is that they are going to really look after NJP or whatever to see what you done.

I thought another interesting note the MCPO said to me was about RSCA. For him if you weren't too far off it wouldn't be a hit. He said that they know when you transfer commands more than likely you wont be at RSCA. When I transferred commands when I first got my eval at instructor duty I cut an 3.86 and the RSCA was 3.99. He said to him that wasn't a big deal and I wouldn't get dinged for it.

Did he say anything about how much of the career path they go by for grading? Obviously I know he would give to much detail. But is it important to hit the milestones along with being a leader?

Just my humble opinion...there's more ways to skin a cat. The career path is an overview of what your "typical" case is. However, we all know that folks get billeted in joint assignments, special duty, outside-of-rate, etc. We don't always have a say in the billets we're assigned and that's spelled out in the precept for consideration by the board. Since it isn't your rate's MCPO grading you, it acts as a reference just to give a summary of your rating and the various jobs they could have.

BL: If you're exceeding in the jobs you are assigned to, demonstrate sustained superior performance as evident in your evals, etc, and your record shows an ability to lead -- you're doing the right stuff and you should feel good the path you're on.

Whether that results in a selection this year, no one can say for sure, but it will most likely get you there eventually.

Anyone hear any good rumors for today?

Been told by various Chiefs in my command that results are coming "sooner than usual" this year-- again, I won't believe it until I see the CNP post the schedule lol

I have heard the same around here.  Once CNP does post the schedule, then things start getting crazy.

I’ve got high hopes for next week.

I'm hoping it comes soon.  The wait is killing me! 😂

That would be 6 weeks if next week (If I'm mathing correctly) .  So unless they notify Triad tomorrow, it's not really much sooner than usual.

Typically the O-4 results are the next ones we should see. Once those get pushed out...GAME ON.

But that’s just the typical pattern, everything that could be perceived as “regular” could be shot to the moon of course.

Thanks for the responses. It was a question intended to be a conversation starter. I’m not a reservist, I was just curious of others opinions.

By the way @PO1(IW/FMF) , you are getting good with your conflict resolution skills. Definitely a good asset if you make Chief!

I've heard from people out to sea that the rumor is August 6th or 7th.  Which would make the season much like it was last year.

If you look at it as training weeks (mon-fri), sept 13th being the end of the 6th week, that would start the first day of the first week as Monday aug 5.  If you look at it 6 weeks back to the day from sept 13th that puts it as aug 2. But I’m pretty sure my command is planning on Friday the 2nd.

I'm with ya.  just putting out the scoop from  a Sailor I know who is out to sea.  I think his chain of command wants them to come out after they get back instead of the last few days of the underway period.

I’m thinking more on the 1st or the 2nd of August. Just sucks because if I make it I’m on deployment and will be constantly around Chiefs for 24hrs lol
