Is NAVEDTRA 14144 "Military Requirements for Chief Petty Officer" worth adding to the list?

I think it's worthy, thanks :D

I am trying to not let it get to me but I am the only FTS at my command and I have had nearly every Chief that has seen me in the P WAY ask if I was ready for the results this afternoon, I was told that I will be going through the Season in August with my Active Brothers and Sisters should I be selected but I am sure they will keep me busy until then.   thCA8S4NAP.jpg

CPO "To Do" Check List

  • We received a step-by-step guide early this year, I'll have to dig it up an PM it to you.

And here it is. Pretty comprehensive step-by-step interactive checklist on how to scrub your record. Disclaimer: I didn't make it, I've only used it.

Here is my opinion for FTS/SELRES results.  The strong rumor I have been told is that results will be out prior to July 4th.  So I also agree with the above:  Wednesday is TRIAD, and Thursday is public.  I am also hoping Navy Advancement posts on FB Monday or Tuesday of the timeline.

Just like to add... I CALLED IT!!! haha!  Good luck everyone!

Did anyone else who sent stuff to the board find it added to their OMPF recently? I just noticed a few new documents since last week.

4th time for me, 2nd time with a quota other than zero. Good luck everyone!

I am always curious when I see Sailors going up for boards multiple times. My questions is does it pertain to quotas, EVALS, or a lack of board education. If its the quotas continue to work hard and wait for your opportunity. If it's EVALs then take the time during midterm counseling and ask questions, listen to area of improvement, and continue to make your strengths stronger. I say boards in relation to career development boards. Does anyone ever bring up during a CDB, how do I become and CPO? We always talk about officer programs, but never discuss what are paths to anchors. If anyone needs a good CDB or EVAL critique let me know.

I believe it is a combination of all these things, in my case I have learned a lot about things I could have done differently especially when it comes to preparing your package. For example should you put in a career summary? I have heard the pros and cons of adding one. Last year I did, this year I didn't. Making sure my OMPF was updated, a few years ago I discovered I had gapped eval that I had to get corrected. This last year I went in my OMPF and cleaned up everything that was duplicated. What has been especially helpful from this command is having a CDB and a Chief's Mess with plenty of Chiefs to get information from. Heck having this forum has been extremely helpful too. This year I honestly feel that I have hit all the wickets necessary based on everything from the precepts, that being said I can only hope the positive things outweigh the negatives. I honestly don't know what more I could have done other than being SOY.  So if I  don't make it then I will be satisfied knowing that I all I could and will attribute it to the one eval that has as a 1/1 MP which will fall off next year.  Regardless what happens I will continue to take care of my Sailors and send some great young HM's out to the fleet. And teach them that you are never to old to learn something new!

I found that when you ask CPO's you get some good information and then you tend to filter what you think is needed for your package. At the end of the day people will tell you they did or didn't send a summary letter. If you think you need one then I'd send it. At the end of they day all you can do is scrub your record with a fine tooth comb and send stuff YOU think is important that is not on a eval or needs to be scene.  How'd you get that 1/1 MP Eval though?

Sounds right.

You are correct especially concerning the medical field, this was also done with the creation of the Seabee's during WWII but that was during wartime to fix and immediate need. It happens in O country to meet the needs of both the medical and nurse corps community but they are usually brought in as a Jr officer.  But everything I have learned about what makes a Chief I can't see this happening, I can't  see our new MCPON even entertaining this. I think it would be a disservice to said individual because I could not see him or her being accepted into the Chiefs community or respected by the Jr Sailors. I think a better option is to make this a civil service position or bring back the Warrant program. Ultimately it would be a slap in the face of every 1st class that has come up the ranks and have been board eligible only to have been passed over.

Being FTS, your usually 1/1 on your eval because most commands it is independent duty, as for the MP I had a Marine Major at my I&I command that did not believe in giving anything higher than a MP or a 4.0 on and eval in his mind that was the same as saying you were perfect and in his book no one was perfect.

Package submissions do not get added to your record by the board/NPC.  They are only reviewed for that particular board - it's on you to submit the updates/corrections to your admin dept.

Yeah I know one of the CMDCM on the board. After it's over I plan on asking him. If I don't make it what can I do and if I do make it what was good so I can pass it down to my fellow sailors

Trust me I tried I even pulled out the Instruction, not exactly sure how the Marines get evaluated but I could not get him to understand.

Good luck to all those waiting on that "S" tomorrow. Breathe easy and know that your future has already been written. . If you get the "N" - what happens after tomorrow is up to you. Don't let the moment define you, instead let it refine you! Don't get bitter, get better! Leaders never stop improving themselves or their charges.

Three quick things to cover from posts on this page. Instead of coping three separate posts and responding individually I am just doing one.

1. There are some things that the board will add to your record post board. There are specific requirements that have to be met in order for that to happen. And, only in certain circumstances such as for NAM's will they do it. Scuttlebutt is they are opening that up a little this year.

2. They will see that the reporting senior that did your evaluation was not in the Navy. And, therefore benefit of the doubt would be given that they are not familiar with the Navy evaluation system. Normally 1/1 MP would be looked down on. But, in your case they may give you some credit based on the actual write up. I know how it feels to get walled out of higher marks. I got a P for years, even though I was told over and over again I was operating at EP level, because I did not have a certain qualification. My reporting seniors would not let any one without it get anything higher. They would only let a certain number of people qualify; so I was not allowed to qualify. Most of those spots were held by Chiefs. It was not until after they put it as a requirement that we had to have it to make Chief that I was able to get it. Very long story short. I was given a P again and again because I did not have a qualification that I was not allowed to get regardless of what else I did. Okay this one was not very quick.

3. Good luck to all of our fellow Sailors waiting on the "S" tomorrow. And, remember: A relatively small percentage will get the "S", but 100% of us are improved because of going through this process.
