  4. CALVERTON, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES 04.01.2025 From Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Mid-Atlantic Public Affairs CALVERTON, NY – The U.S. Navy shared preliminary drinking water well sample results to residents and property owners near the Former Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant (NWIRP) Calverton who consented to having their drinking water sampled and tested for certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS. To raise awareness about the water sampling initiative, the Navy conducted extensive community outreach efforts, culminating in an Open House event on January 22. During the event, residents received updates on the ongoing PFAS investigation and the residential drinking water sampling program. Outreach activities included publishing updates in local newspapers and various publications, distributing informational materials through public libraries, and sharing notices via the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) environmental news bulletin. Additionally, letters and postcards were mailed directly to homeowners. Environmental contractors began on-site sampling of private drinking water wells on January 23. As of now, nearly all drinking water well sample results have been below the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for PFAS. The sole exception was a well sampled in 2019, which showed slightly elevated PFAS levels above the EPA MCL. The resident associated with this well opted to decline re-sampling at this time. “Although these preliminary results are encouraging, we will carry out a comprehensive quality control review of all collected data and will consult with NYSDEC and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) before final results are released to the public,” said Addison Phoenix, the Navy’s project manager for the site. “The Navy remains dedicated to safeguarding the health and well-being of its neighbors and will continue investigating emerging chemicals in and around Former NWIRP Calverton, as necessary.” If you own property within the Navy’s designated sampling area and haven’t yet had your drinking water well sampled, please call (800) 906-9339 to request and schedule a sampling appointment. (Note: If your drinking water is supplied by the Riverhead Water District, sampling is not required. The Navy is currently offering sampling for drinking water wells in both the original and expanded sampling areas). For more information or questions, email the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic Public Affairs Office at NAVFAC_ML_PAO@navy.mil, or visit the Former NWIRP Calverton website at: http://www.navfac.navy.mil/calvertonpfas

  6. President Trump claimed that his pick to be the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, retired Lt. Gen. John Dan "Razin" Caine, wore a MAGA hat and said he'd kill for Trump when they met. 7. President Donald Trump has spent the early months of his return to the White House dismantling the nation’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The moves, he’s said, are designed to forge a “color-blind” society that rejects the kinds of race-conscious programs intended to make amends for the historical wrongs experienced by Black Americans and other marginalized groups.

  14. And just imagine: Trump created this whole mess... U.S. President Donald Trump hinted he could use military force to take over Greenland — in the latest sign of Washington's fixation with the autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark. “We’ll get Greenland. Yeah, 100 percent,” Trump told NBC.
  15. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who is facing scrutiny over his handling of details of a military strike, brought his wife, a former Fox News producer, to two meetings with foreign military counterparts where sensitive information was discussed, according to multiple people who were present or had knowledge of the discussions.

  17. The Trump administration’s major military mission at the southern border focused on reducing immigration and drug flows has already cost taxpayers more than $300 million, according to sources briefed on data from the Defense Department comptroller — even as the administration has vowed to slash the size of government and cut 8 percent from the department’s budget. In just the first month, the Pentagon spent roughly $250 million dollars, a source briefed on the cost and two other people familiar with the matter told CNN, including deportation flights on US military aircraft, the deployment of thousands of additional troops and the expansion of detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay.

  21. “However, after examining the migrant relocation activities at Guantanamo Bay, we are outraged by the scale and wastefulness of the Trump Administration’s misuse of our military. It is obvious that Guantanamo Bay is a likely illegal and certainly illogical location to detain immigrants. Its use is seemingly designed to undermine due process and evade legal scrutiny. “The staggering financial cost to fly these immigrants out of the United States and detain them at Guantanamo Bay—a mission worth tens of millions of dollars a month—is an insult to American taxpayers. President Trump could implement his immigration policies for a fraction of the cost by using existing ICE facilities in the U.S., but he is obsessed with the image of using Guantanamo, no matter the cost.
  22. A former Navy detective sentenced earlier this year for using excessive force on a detained sailor now faces another charge – attempting to produce child pornography. Jonathan Christopher Laroche, 41, of Spring Valley, is accused in a complaint filed in federal court of describing sexually abusing a child and recording the abuse in a series of online messages.
  23. Trump administration officials, including both Waltz and Ratcliffe, have repeatedly insisted that no classified information was shared in the text. Ratcliffe, in his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, specifically referenced his text about “starting points.” But current and former officials have disagreed vehemently with that assessment: The kinds of information in not just Hegseth’s texts, but Ratcliffe’s and Waltz’s, included very clear references to sources and methods. Even if it wasn’t an explicit or technical description, these people say, it is information that the US government would typically withhold because it might allow an adversary to make an educated interference about US sources and methods.

So it did compromise a human source - provided by Israel Israeli officials are furious over the Signal chat leak involving senior Trump administration officials because it included sensitive intelligence Israel provided to the U.S. from a human intelligence source in Yemen, CBS News has learned.
