Heard from one of our Chiefs today that our SEL, who is on the board, isn't expected to be back at the command until the 21st...

Sounds about right. NLT the end of the first week of August is a safe bet.

Also Senior I can only speculate this, however, being an active member in the FCPOA and First Class Mess has to play some part in it as well.  They may want to see what you are doing for and within your mess as well.  I don't know if there's any option to being apart of the CPO Mess, I'm leaning towards no, however if you aren't active as a First Class then how will you be active as a Chief?

We'll, you are hitting the proverbial nail on the head. Being not only a member but a leader in your FCPOA shows us (Chiefs) how you will integrate to the CHIEFS MESS. I always preach to my FCPOs, we can't all be elected to a position within the association however, that doesn't mean you can't lead within it. That goes for any evolution (365, command programs, ect.). The key there is capturing that leadership in what little and valuable space is on your EVAL. Some may think its hard as a FCPO sometimes but guess what, wait till you get up here and you have to lead a group of very senior CPO/SCPO AND MCPOs (who are set in their ways after 25 plus years and don't need to be led). Sorry for the wall of text, android is not my friend.

Back,

Senior makes some great points. It isn't just limited to the FCPOA. I did my part by LEADING in CPO 365 (making and giving training etc.) I was never an officer in the FCPOA but I would participate. I am the first to admit however I wasn't a regular attender. The difference in the mess, you are EXPECTED to be there. We don't sit there and decide fundraisers etc. the whole time. Most of the time is talking CPO level issues in our command and what we need to do about them. We are all rarely in the mess at the same time as we are out there taking care of our guys and leading our divisions. There is a massive difference between the CPO Mess and CPOA. CPOA to me is really just a title we use but the mess is our daily lives and working together. Remember, there is no I in team.

Man I swear the best for me is not seeing my name on the list, but seeing all the guys I worked with that deserve to be there. Hopefully I see some worthwhile names in the list this year. We sent out best master Chiefs this year to pick some ground sailors.

What I meant by that was I feel a greater sense of pride an accomplishment when I see the names of those I trained or helped get their name in the list than I do when I see my own name. Once my name is on the list my immediate thought is, "how can I use my position to get others up or to surpass me." My family has been in the navy for over 75 years since they came to this country and my grand father who achieved RADM told me,"it is a better lineage to leave greater men in your place than to leave as the greatest man and leave the Navy worse off"

And with that mindset, those individuals will find the success they often do not anticipate. A great philosophy, and look at that you grandfather accomplished, imagine the vast impact he had at the rank he ascertained through his service to his country.

Just wanted to add that most board members that I have spoke to in the past take a few days to a week off after the board so I wouldn't put too much stock into a board conclusion date based off when a particular MC or SCPO gets back to work.

Makes sense. I don't know if I would be ready to go back to work right away if I had to read through hundreds of packages, working those long days, etc.... :) :)

We are doing Ranking Board training this week for CPO 365. Does anyone have documents, score sheets or tips to bring to the training to make it worthwhile. All the stuff I had is in my NMCI account and we are currently working on a different net. Thanks in advance.

Been lurking on this page for a couple years. I'm hoping this will be my year. Was the Navigator on my last ship and qualified Officer of the Deck underway in 2013.

Wonder if we will break 100 pages before the results this year?

Hmmm, I wonder...

"The Navy Advancement Center (NAC) announced a new service July 13, allowing Sailors to request to receive profile sheet updates via email....Once registered, candidates will receive an email every time an updated advancement sheet profile is generated due to a change in advancement status."

They also made that announcement in June -> http://forum.navyadvancement.com/index.php/topic/1612-get-automatic-profile-sheet-updates-via-email/

Even after the board members return to their parent commands, they still have to do the post board scrub of the list (No DUIs, PFA Failures, etc) since the last eval period. That will still take some time to complete. My bet is first week of August.

Anyone know how to update their certs for their home CAC reader? Mine stopped working all of a sudden, and I want to be able to F5 my profile sheet every day instead of this website. ;)

That would be nice, except profile sheets won't be updated until a day after results are released to the triads. At least that's how it was last year.

I don't know how it all works but they might have filled the quotas and kept a few names around just in case a few of the filled quotas got pulled because of something in their record. I can only guess that they try their best to fill all the quotas that they can.

I seem to remember that they select up to the quotas and then the board closes.  No other names can be selected.  So if there are 20 selects and three failed the PFA, then there are now only 17 selects.  The three people that missed the mark, have to wait until next year and start working on their next eval.  It's only in Officer boards that they select alternates.

I hope they do this, but I doubt it. From everything that I've been told they would rather leave some quotas open than promote someone "undeserving". For example, if your rate was 100% for available quotas, but you were deemed under qualified, they could still leave you off of the list. The same would go for if somebody got bumped from the list like in years past when they put holds on people's advancement and they would just leave the quota open if the person didn't get their issue resolved. It sucks to see empty quotas and not make it, and I'm sure that the board tries to find a way to fill all quotas possible, but sometimes things happen.

Worse than that is when a Chief Select puts on his anchors and then immediately gets a DUI.  That sucks...

I told myself not to get anxious this year because I don't feel as though I have as good of a chance this year as I did last year. Yet here I am anxiously awaiting results again and hoping for a better result than last year. I got an I ranked transfer EP in August with a solid write up, I have a NOB from the six month school I attended, and then I re qualified in two major in-rate watch stations on the ship that require CO's designation letters in time to send them to the board. Hopefully that is enough to get me over the edge this year.

Definitely let us know if member picks up

That brings up a great legal point, so a frocked Chief gets a DUI, how is that legally processed? Since you can't bust down a Chief at NJP does it go to Court Martial or does the Chief go to NJP and gets a letter of reprimand which is a career killer?

He's frocked...his recommendation for promotion is removed, he's still an e6.
