The U.S. Navy’s director of air warfare did taxpayers a big favor last week when he opined that there is no need for a new class of light aircraft carriers.

That half-baked idea was floated during the dying days of the Trump administration, reviving an idea that has been studied over and over again for decades.

The studies always come to the same conclusion.
