  1. SILVER SPRING, Md. — An active U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander from Maryland has been federally convicted of cyberstalking his ex-wife.

Federal prosecutors say 45-year-old Jason Michael Leidel, of Silver Spring, sent emails filled with false allegations to get his ex-wife fired from her job as a public school special education teacher.

  3. When a U.S. Navy photoanalyst disappeared from the United States in 1986, it would be two years before he surfaced again — but when he did, he was across the globe in Russia using a new name.

A 1989 PEOPLE story described how American officials had already suspected Glenn Michael Souther of being a traitor. Still, it would be an 1989 obituary in Moscow that shed light on exactly how much Souther had allegedly done for Russia before his death at age 32.

  4. The speed and scale of Jared Kushner’s re-emergence can’t be overstated. In the first year of Donald Trump’s second presidency, his son-in-law is casually consolidating economic and political power with staggering speed. Kushner has positioned himself at the center of the biggest media merger in years and at the fulcrum of White House foreign policy, all while taking in multi-billion-dollar investments from autocratic governments

  5. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs plans to eliminate as many as 35,000 health-care positions this month, the Washington Post reported on Saturday, citing an internal memo, Veterans Affairs staffers and congressional aides.

Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.

The cuts involve mostly unfilled jobs, including doctors, nurses, and support staff, the report said.

The agency hopes that the cuts will reduce the health care workforce to as few as 372,000 employees, a 10% reduction from last year, the report added, citing a memo shared with regional leaders last month.

  6. Two U.S. Army soldiers and a civilian U.S. interpreter were killed Saturday in an attack in Palmyra, Syria, the Pentagon said.

Three other U.S. personnel were wounded in the attack, which occurred during what the Pentagon described as a "key leader engagement" supporting ongoing counter-ISIS operations, according to a statement posted on X by Sean Parnell, the Pentagon's chief spokesperson.

  7. More than 50 members of Congress are demanding answers from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and homeland security officials after the Guardian revealed the VA is compiling a report on all non-US citizens “employed by or affiliated with” the government agency that will then be shared with other federal agencies, including immigration authorities.

  8. How much is this costing taxpayers? 👀

Nearly seven years later, Mr. Maduro is still in power. Mr. Rubio, now Mr. Trump’s secretary of state and interim national security adviser, is a primary architect of an escalating military pressure campaign against Venezuela. And while pushing out Mr. Maduro appears to be one immediate goal of U.S. policy, doing so could help fulfill another decades-long dream of Mr. Rubio’s: dealing a critical blow to Cuba.

  9. I can safely assume that there will be investigations after there is a new president and lawmakers, including Republicans, are no longer under the claws of trump...

U.S. service members — including staff officers and at least one drone pilot — are seeking advice from outside groups, fearing they could face legal consequences for any involvement in the Trump administration's lethal strikes on suspected drug boats.
