Morons Are Governing America
NEW YORK/WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Roughly a week after Donald Trump started his second term as president, the U.S. military issued an order to three freight airlines operating out of Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and a U.S. base in Qatar: Stop 11 flights loaded with artillery shells and other weaponry and bound for Ukraine.
In a matter of hours, frantic questions reached Washington from Ukrainians in Kyiv and from officials in Poland, where the shipments were coordinated. Who had ordered the U.S. Transportation Command, known as TRANSCOM, to halt the flights? Was it a permanent pause on all aid? Or just some?

The United States will stop strikes against Yemen’s Houthi group, President Donald Trump announced Tuesday, after a nearly-two-month bombing campaign.
Trump, ahead of a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, said the halt would start immediately. The Houthis approached the administration on Monday night indicating “they want to stop the fighting,” he said.

Activists are coordinating a protest on June 14—Flag Day and President Donald Trump's birthday—targeting a military-style parade planned by the Trump administration.
The president has said the parade will be a patriotic tribute, but the "No Kings" group, which is organizing the protest, has described the parade as "a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday."
Newsweek has contacted the Department of Defense for comment.

A failed interception of a missile fired from Yemen forced Israel to briefly shut down its main international airport on Sunday, exposing the country’s vulnerabilities and the Houthi rebels’ continued ability to strike distant targets despite a sustained US military campaign.

The White House has backed off President Donald Trump’s stunning social media proposal to change the name of Veterans Day to “Victory Day for World War I” and will settle for keeping the name while adding a proclamation hailing American victory in World War I.

Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island said he was skeptical of the plans, accusing Hegseth of having a track record of firing military leaders without cause.
"I have always advocated for efficiency at the Department of Defense, but tough personnel decisions should be based on facts and analysis, not arbitrary percentages," said Reed, who is the top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Checks & Balances
ATLANTA — It's what one historian calls an “elaborate, clunky machine,” one that's been fundamental to American democracy for more than two centuries.
The principle of “checks and balances” is rooted in the Constitution's design of a national government with three distinct, coequal branches.

Across military Reddit forums and enlisted meme pages, Hegseth has become a regular target of satire, often referred to with nicknames such as "DUI Hire," "Whiskey Leaks" and "Kegseth." The references allude to past controversies, including alleged alcohol abuse and an incident in which he shared sensitive Yemen attack plan details in an unsecured Signal group chat that included a journalist.

Has this president lost his mind or what!?
President Donald Trump announced plans Sunday to implement a 100% tariff on movies made in other countries that are imported to the United States, decrying other nations for offering financial incentives meant to “draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States.”

What an idiot
President Trump said he would talk to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney about making Canada the 51st state. But the president said he didn't expect it to get to the point of using military force — though he wouldn't commit to the same for Greenland.
"Something could happen with Greenland, I'll be honest," Trump said in an interview with NBC News' "Meet the Press" that aired on Sunday. He said that "we need that for national and international security," but he added "I don't see it with Canada. I just don't see it."

President Donald Trump in a social media post Thursday announced plans to rename Veterans Day as “Victory Day for World War I” and establish May 8 as “Victory Day for World War II.”
“We won both wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything,” Trump wrote in the late night statement. “That’s because we don’t have leaders anymore, that know how to do so! We are going to start celebrating our victories again!”

Freedom of Speech
The New York Times issued a firm rebuke of President Trump on Wednesday after the president threatened the news outlet with legal action over reporting on the litigation in which he is locked with Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS News.
“President Trump’s post today follows a long list of legal threats aimed at discouraging or penalizing independent reporting about the administration. The law is clear and protects a strong free press and favors an informed American public,” the Times said in a statement to The Hill.

Republicans Say White House Budget Proposal Amounts to a Cut in Defense Spending
in The Actions & Consequences of Our commander-in-chief

Republican lawmakers are calling the White House’s defense budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year an overall cut to the military following Friday’s release of the so-called skinny budget.
While the White House is claiming that the Fiscal Year 2026 proposal would include the first $1 trillion defense budget, Republicans on Capitol Hill say that number includes dollars from the current reconciliation proposal and argue that accounting does not add up to the defense spending they want to see from the new administration.
