Hegseth instructs Pentagon to defend elections from ‘foreign actors’

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth instructed the Pentagon last week to prioritize and deploy "advanced intelligence and cyber capabilities" to track down, disrupt and neutralize "foreign actors to protect the 2026 midterm elections" while "maintaining the fundamental freedoms that characterize our country."

HOWEVER

President Donald Trump fired Christopher Krebs, the director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), on November 17, 2020. 

• Krebs's agency declared the 2020 election the most secure in U.S. history.
• trump did not like that.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) significantly impacted the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) through mass layoffs and contract terminations in early 2025.

• Mass Firings: Over 130 probationary workers, elite threat hunters, and Cyber Talent Management System recruits were fired during a February 2025 weekend.
• Specialized Teams: DOGE-led actions dismantled specialized red teams and proactive defense operations

So now hedgehog is using military resources in place of a department that already serves that function. Meanwhile, there is a forever war with Iran, and Iran controls the Straight of Hormuz. That is why the price of petroleum products, diesel fuel and gasoline have risen.
