PENTAGON – The Navy wants to buy six battle force ships and decommission 19 ships in the next fiscal year, according to the service’s latest budget request. Faced with fiscal constraints, the Navy’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget prioritizes readiness over modernization, leading to a smaller shipbuilding request and a delay for several new programs and research and development efforts.

Well, I'm confused... Despite efforts to increase the number of potential sailors, the Navy is expecting to go into Fiscal Year 2025 with a smaller force. The Navy is preparing to fund an active-duty end strength of 332,300 sailors, according to the Presidential Budget released Monday. It’s a decrease of 14,700 compared to the ask in the Fiscal Year 2023 budget.

WASHINGTON – Sailors will soon have access to fitness centers on all Navy installations 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Commander, Navy Installations Command, which oversees all 70 Navy bases around the globe, signed a memorandum on March 8 authorizing installation commanding officers to move forward with implementing 24-hour entry to fitness facilities.

WASHINGTON — Today, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced that it will soon be able to provide in vitro fertilization (IVF) to eligible unmarried Veterans and eligible Veterans in same-sex marriages. VA will also be able to provide IVF to Veterans using donated sperm or eggs – a critical step toward helping Veterans who are not able to produce their own sperm or eggs due to service-connected injuries and health conditions. Under existing law, all Veterans who receive IVF from VA must be unable to procreate without the use of fertility treatment due to a health condition caused by their military service. Before today’s expansion of care, VA was only allowed to provide IVF services to Veterans who were legally married and – within that relationship – able to produce their own gametes (both eggs and sperm). Under this expansion of care, VA will offer IVF benefits to qualifying Veterans regardless of marital status and – for the first time – allow the use of donor eggs, sperm, and embryos.

A pair of men were indicted in San Diego Thursday for participating in a bribery scheme that resulted in more than $100 million in government contracts. Former Naval Information Warfare Center civilian employee James Soriano and defense contractor Russell Thurston allegedly conspired to commit fraud to the tune of more than $100 million, according to an indictment brought by the U.S. Southern District of California.

There is conflicting information coming from the Virginia Beach Police Department about the wrongful arrest of a Navy wife, so I'll be posting any updates that are released to the media. It originally started with an arrest at JEB Little Creek-Fort Story by Navy police. Some of the information includes: VBPD stated that the name was the same but a different middle initial (shouldn't they have dug deeper.) VBPD referred to the name difference as an "alias." VBPD stated that the birthday was the same except a slight different in the year. (try applying for something with a slight different in your birth date.) VBPD did not originally release the fact that they already had a mugshot picture of the real person that was wanted. The Magistrate said there was an issue with the fingerprints but the VBPD states that there is not and issue with the fingerprints. The Pentagon released details Friday of its plans to construct a temporary pier off the Gaza Strip’s coast to help flow more than 2 million meals a day into the territory, using an established military capability that officials say can build and deploy the structure without having any American troops on the ground. Over the next 60 days, roughly 1,000 troops will deploy to the Mediterranean Sea to build a floating platform where cargo ships can offload aid onto smaller military vessels, which will transfer them to a causeway attached to the beach, where trucks can pick it up and distribute it within Gaza, Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, a Pentagon spokesman, told reporters.

The remains of a Navy sailor who was killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II has been identified, the Defense Department reported Thursday. Navy Fire Controlman 2nd Class Lawrence J. Overley was assigned to the USS Oklahoma, which was on Battleship Row in Pearl Harbor when Japanese forces attacked on Dec. 7, 1941, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency said in a news release.

Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), the former White House physician, retired as a Navy rear admiral in 2019 but was demoted less than two years later, The Washington Post reported.
