NARR/REF A ANNOUNCES APPROVAL TO ACCEPT AND WEAR THE NATO VIGILANCE MEDAL.

AWARDS.// 
 
RMKS/1.  Pursuant to reference (a), the Non-Article 5 North Atlantic Treaty 
Organization (NATO) Vigilance Medal is hereby authorized for acceptance and 
wear by U.S. Navy personnel.  U.S. Navy personnel who are awarded the medal 
by NATO, may formally accept and wear the medal in accordance with Section 
7342 of Title 5, United States Code, DoD Directive 1005.13, Gifts and 
Decorations from Foreign Governments and policy contained in DoD Instruction 
1348.33 "DoD Military Decorations and Awards Program." The complete list of 
NATO medals authorized for acceptance and wear by U.S. Service Members is 
available at https://prhome.defense.gov/M-RA/Inside-M-RA/MPP-OEPM/. 
 
2.  Pursuant to reference (b), U.S. Navy personnel are only authorized to 
wear a NATO medal awarded for actions or operations approved by the Assistant 
Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (ASD (M&RA)). 
   a.  Only the initial NATO medal awarded may be worn. 
   b.  Subsequent NATO medals awarded for separate operations are denoted by 
wearing a bronze service star on the suspension and service ribbon of the 
initial NATO medal awarded. 
   c.  The NATO medal ranks immediately after the United Nations medal and 
before the Multinational Force and Observers Medal in order of precedence.
