I'm getting drunk for a week because at my command you can't drink for the 6 weeks

The whole non-selection CDB routine still makes me scratch my head. I understand the rationale behind it, but without feedback from the board it feels a little forced - like stepping through the obligatory motions.

It may just be me though.

You aren't alone. For me it feels like a career autopsy. "We were so sure you'd make it. By you didn't. So now we need to see what killed you at the board."

Not surprised at all, but the Chiefs at my command have been out the office every since yesterday. I wonder what they are doing..lol. This may be the last week for most, is anyone doing anything family related this weekend? I'm thinking about taking my family camping this weekend.

It ensures the non-selects are on a level playing field.  Even in this day and age, I've been surprised at the number of people who have had zero interaction with the Chief's Mess or the chain of command regarding their packages, quals, collaterals, etc.  Yes, that's on the PO1, but it's also on the chain of command.

I would agree with everything here except it doesn't support my hatred of CDB's lol. I know this is why they do it, but some of us get sucked into the CDB's after talking to 9 trillion MC's who all reviewed our records and told us it was a matter of waiting 'our turn.' IMO, it feels like they do it just so they can say they addressed the problem. Now, on the other side if the coin, I completely agree with CDB's for SVM's not making board.

I wish they had waited until tomorrow to release the dates. I was counting on this forum to keep me entertained during my last watch here. Only so many times you can read precepts, quotas and convening orders before you start watching the second hand tick away.

If this is honestly how you feel about the post-selection CDBs, then do this: Remember it!  You may not be able to change it at this command, but at some point you'll be in that position, where you're on the other side of the table.  Ensure by your own attitude and preparedness that you are not just able to say you've checked the box, but are actually taking care of your Sailors by looking in depth at collaterals, reminding them about education, talking to them about a more visible leadership role within the command, etc.

 

Everyone out there can teach you something, even if it's only what not to do.  It's up to you to learn the lesson they teach, in the proper manner.

A CDB for those who don't get selected when the board itself won't give any feedback as to why you didn't get selected is a big waste of time.Especially for those that fulfill the "precepts" and still don't get the "S". As well as those that were led to believe by Senior & Master Chief's (who have sat the board) that they should get selected after reviewing their records prior to the LTB deadline.  There is nothing those on the CDB can tell you since the selection board doesn't send back anything for them to pass down. This is not based on personal experience, just my observation.

at my command we had a review board who looked at your packages and told you what you should have done or had in your package before you sent it

also my FCC stated yesterday that MCPON issued a new guidance for FY16 Chief candidates. I have not found it online yet.

2) I think my mixture of sarcasm and actual thought was poorly represented by my failure to be more sarastic.

Here was my point... no matter who is issuing the CDB, when it comes to non-advancement sit-downs it hurts. I think at some point (mind you I am a very proactive and engaged leader) you have to let people get it or not get it. We all see those people who refuse to do 365, who spend 5 minutes on evals, or have an excuse for every short fall. At some point in a persons career it is either sink or swim. Especially at the E6 to Chief level. Let those who have the initiative to seek assistance and guidance do just that. It feels different when you seek that yourself.

In short: big silver spoon hanging and entrance to Chief's mess out of an E6's mouth... if my leader came to just those who tried with insight vice one big blanket CDB program it would not only cut the fat but bolster those who are in it to win it.

Non-advance CDBs hurt. We all feel it. If it doesn't, then you're the fat that needs to be trimmed. However, the CDBs hurt more when you're told "just wait, your number will be called". I would really get more out of it, or at least be less frustrated, if I was told what I could do to change my stance. Tell me that my GPA wasn't high enough, my fingernails were too long, or I didn't do enough. But, please, don't just tell me to wait!

Spending some time at Universal Studios Orlando this weekend....and comicon. I feel relieved that the results are coming out til next week. I can relax and enjoy my weekend!

The Post CDB's do suck. Especially when they always start out as "Tell me why you didn't pick-up?" I thought that was one of the reasons for the CDB for them to tell me why they think I didn't make it. I just get told every year keep doing what you are doing you are on the right track. I guess you just have to wait your turn. It just really burns when most of the people you mentored from the time you were an E-5 are already chiefs and your still stuck at E-6. I think I'll just go on leave during the CDB time-frame if I don't see the "S" this year.
