I wont say the name but this Master Chief drove from DC. If you know a lil something then you should be able to figure out who im talking about. The FMC (fleet master chief) in a very smart manner told us the results would be out the first week of August.

and this helps with my Aug 5th prediction. :)   Thanks Chief!

Looking at your frustration, I get it.  We were all there at one point or another but if I may, There are multiuple ways of seeking non direct feedback....I am sure you know one or two fellow AO's who were selected over the years, follow up with them (after the season) and ask them for a copy of their selected EVAL and the last 5 years, I do this all the time for any IT1 who asks.  As I have stated on this forum multiple times, if you are asking a Chief who has never sat a board, you are doing yourself a diservice based on their feed back.

Dont get me wrong they are able to help refine your EVALs, guide your career BUT take the extra step on your own to reach out to a MCPO who has sat a board and ask for mentorship and guidance and have this heart to heart with him or her.  THAT IS THE TRUE FEED BACK, I know a lot of people say, "I cant do that" or "They never respond", this is a test of your ability to network.  Reach out to them and seek this advice..... They will tell you point blank, "This is your year"/"This is a select EVAL" OR "This is not your year but this is what you need to do, or do better." Once you have established contact, it is just a point of constant mentorship, guidance, and ultimately a final reviewer of your EVAL (These are the steps I took and I was successful!).

I appreciate your response.  I did contact a few previous board members after the last three "N"s.  One in particular looked at them for about an hour, pointed out some subtle issues, but noted that there was no detractors that he could see and solid performance as a leader.  I was told he would have given me a thumbs up.  There was one issue where some trait marks were moved around between a couple of evals where one was lowered and another was raised, but he said that it usually isn't a big deal because traits are moved around alot during the chop and are sometimes overlooked and there was nothing in the writeups that would hint to the board about any issues.  Another thing he stated was that I was under CO's average for one eval cycle, but was ranked number 1 MP and had normal progression to an EP and left as #2 on my periodic before transferring.  He said that would normally raise red flags, but being ranked as number 1 MP would point to the CO only ranking above CO's average for EP's and the CO had a low trait average.  These two things are beyond my control.  I mean this very well could be it, but I don't know.  The frustrating part is that I have done what you have suggested already and I usually get the same feedback.  Keep doing what you are doing, your time will come.  Yet the acronym thing does disturb me, because I see it every year.  Saw a guy pick up who had like 10 quals but never used them.  I just don't know...

Hello class. This is my 1st post, I've been reading this thread for a few weeks now and appreciate all the insight everyone has. Some points I agree with and some I do not. All in all very informative. So this is my 2nd time up, and I know that due to some concious career decisions on my part, I'm not very likely to get the coveted 'S' in my profile sheet, but that little glimmer of hope that maybe the board members all had an altered mental status when my package came across makes me come back and read any updates almost every 30 minutes. For those of you that are fortunate enough to get selected, just please remember that FCPOs are not retarded and a majority of us can be trusted to continue taking care of Sailors and meeting the mission. Guidance and mentorship is always appreciated.

I can only image how you feel as I was selected my first time up. However, I can tell you that I've spoken to a few we'll known top dogs who informed us that the below CO's average is a silent killer. The MC said a lot of times it's done on purpose. People see their evaluations,a good write up and ranking and never realize how much weight the CO's average holds.

What do you think the board thinks of when they see a eval that is a 3.71 and the CO's average is a 3.74? It was a transfer eval because of a decom and I was only onboard 10 months. I help a DIVO position and received a NAM.

That and the CO's career average for each pay grade will answer that question. Remember all of you who are or are not selected, when debriefed on your EVALs (as E6 above) by the CO, ask what his career cummary group average is, he or ADMIN can answer that question.

Yeah this wasn't purposeful and it was very negligible. It was like 3.43 with a CO average of 3.46 or something like that. And at that time a lot of ppl complained because there rankings went up but their PMA dropped when the new CO took over. All the Chiefs had to explain to everyone that the old CO kept a 4.0 average and the new CO kept a 3.46 so even though pmas dropped, ppl still broke out. I also had one friend who at the time had an eval that stayed the same, though he was ranked #1 and they told him that his margin above the COs average was greater so it looked even better. He left the command saying he would never make Chief then picked up the following cycle. Even so in my case, I had normal progression with SSP. That was why the board MC said he wouldn't have seen it as an issue. I also think I may have been above on his career average if I remember correctly. He explained that silent killer thing to me, he didn't see it that way, but another board MC might have quickly looked at it and said, here is a dirtbag!

I "think" it might list it in the PSR as well, but I don't have access to my govy as I am on leave

I think they are smart enough to see right through that. The fact you got a NAM in only 10 months is saying something.

I had a sit down with my CMC today, he told me that he sent and email to the FCC detailer saying that he wants to keep me on board if I make chief this year.  He then told me that the orders that I have will have to be changed because I will now be a chief and I cant fill a First Class billet. I really dont like that the detaliers changed my rotation month to September, but I guess that happens when your married to a chief and they need him at sea.
