I want them now!

Same here. I think they should be released a week after the board is finished. And that it should be up to the CO's to determine if they want to hold the selectees recommendation pending and issues. All other advancements are handled this way with the exception of the E7-9.

my ITC just told me the best advice ever "IT1 you are a glutten for punishment and will enjoy initiation and take the fun out of it for me"!

I won't claim to know why they do things the way they do; I just roll with the punches.  E7-E9 though is a bit of a stretch to fix if something is wrong or a quota was over-filled.  They may hold them back to prevent headaches later on.  It is easier to leave us stressing than to try to fix things long-distance and having to deal with civilian time-tables.

I was just told to start thinking about fundraising. You have a pot of money that starts at zero. How do you raise money using your available resources are you? Hint: CHIEF select! I was also told that no matter how many no's I get keep asking questions. Don't take no for an answer evert!

Good insight!  I'm a horrible fund-raiser.  I tend to just save my money and throw it in the pot when I can spare it to help out. I am however, good at asking questions.  Thanks IT.

So, I was mentioning to a fellow First that I needed to slim down to 190, because at 198 I thought it was cutting it close for 72 inches. He mentioned that he too is 72, but currently us 231.

Does anyone know the actual policy once you are Selected?

I've heard everyone gets their PHA and BCA done, but if they don't pass that they can't perform their PRT.

I know I can slim down in 2 weeks, but I am not sure about him.

What is he facing if he is not in height & weight standards if selected?

They can hold the pinning until he's in standards. They can also take it as a failure and remove recommendation.

At my last command, the only Flag ship in the Pacific, certain Firsts were spoken to privately by MC's after the board members returned. Funny thing is all those spoken to were Selectees 2 weeks later. There were some not spoken to that made it, but it is strange how some Firsts will know right away if they made it.

why be borderline and have to slim down, don't live life on the edge always be ready, junior Sailors recognize these types of things

Thanks Dusten! Great info. I guess my question really is will they allow him to participate in Phase II / Transition if he doesn't pass his BCA?

Agreed. I was borderline last prt for the first time in my career (187, 196 max) and I took that as a cue. I'm sitting at 171 today

Truth to that Ty-D! But my first goal is to get in Navy standards and then think about a beach bod. My sister and I went halves on P90X3 since she is stationed in Geneva, Switzerland and I in Italy.

Up to the mess. Like stated by another I to had a buddy advanced that was told he's go through the process but wouldn't pin until he could pass

Hey everyone. I've been a lurker for about two years now and have gotten some really great advice and insight from this forum. I have a question regarding the PPME. Did everyone do both the enlisted and officer courses? I have completed the senior enlisted blocks, but wasn't sure about the others. I plan to err on the side of caution and get them done (wasn't possible before this years board) but I was curious what everyone else did. Thanks!

"Optional" as in you, as a PO1, don't HAVE to participate...I'm sure any of us can imagine the ramifications and treatment we might receive if we "opt out."

Probably similar to the way a crew looks at a Wog who refuses to take part in the "crossing the line" ceremony.

We had a select at my command a couple years ago "opt-out"....he was black balled! Every chief we came in contact with when mentioning him said he was not a chief, he's an E-7...He was not allowed in the mess and got no help from anyone, needless to say the very next year he decided to go through phase II

I have heard rumors or peeps doing that but never seen it in person. Thought it was an urban legend!

Those are the same ones I've completed as well.

word is getting around, we are all doing the precepts :D

Thanks everyone. The general consensus seems to be to focus on the senior enlisted courses.

Does anyone know how much weight an OOD Underway and TAO Letter would have?

Depends on rate, type of command received from and typical rank that achieves that watch station at said command

A ton, but bare in mind, that is all secondary to SSP....

I have an even better urban legend for you.  I can't remember if the guy was saying it was the current MCPON or the previous one, but supposedly he opted out.
