That's interesting because all you ever hear  is that if you opt out you are black balled by the community, and looked down upon by the mess.  I've even been told if you opt out good luck getting help for your sailors because you aren't allowed into the mess.  I kinda wonder how often it happens that people opt out.  From what I've put together over the years of hearing this and that.  The season is all about team work as a class.  Not sure about other places but here I've been told the whole base goes as 1 class here on Whidbey Island.  You go through the storming, norming, and performing stages.  My CMC on my 2nd IA talked a lot about storming, norming, and performing.

I have never actually seen an E-7...as in someone that opted out.. I do not know many that would...most see it as something important to start to build a level of trust with your new mess

We had one of our fellow PO1s post this a couple of days ago. Hopefully this helps when trying to figure out if it was worth it or not to do them.

 

You are 100% correct and just to add to that I spoke to a Master Chief who told me have JPME & PPME combined grades out the same as an associates degree (strictly the amount of points it equals).

I personally am qualified aswe, Cicwo, and suwc on a ddg. I feel its part of the equation of superior performance. Being qualified and performing above your paygrade

They will be worth education points.

 

If you do the PPME I don't think there is much of a reason for you to do the OPME unless you are planning on going LDO or OCS.  I would spend that time doing the Military Requirements for FCPO and CPO if you haven't already done them.

One of my previous CPO's decided not to go through the transition and he was black listed from the start.  It wasn't anything obvious to those around us but for the ones that worked for him in the department we got no support from the CPO mess at the command.  Everyone was all about helping until they found out who the E-7 was and that was the way they worded it.  "Oh, you work for an E-7?  Sorry, cannot support."

seems like a ridiculous thing to say! even if you do not like the person you are gonna screw over everyone he leads???? sounds like a bad COC!

No you will show up on your gaining command's list.

I'm embarrassed that there are messes within our Navy that would blackball someone because they didn't go through induction. There are a million things in life more important than induction. What if my family member passed away right as it started? Am I supposed to be blackballed until I can go through induction the next year?

What if my family member passed away right as it started? Am I supposed to be blackballed until I can go through induction the next year?

The rank of chief is earned. Without earning it through the process they've only earned the paygrade through selection.

There is also a difference between missing induction due to unforseen circumstances and choosing not to participate

Maybe I'm an oddball, but when I joined the Navy; part of my decision to join was the traditions and history.  When they mentioned Crossing the Line and asked who was going to take part I was somewhat shocked we even had a choice... This is the Navy that is our heritage... and if I get the "S" I feel the same way.  The only way I'll be missing Phase II is sever medical or death of self or close family members.  Not meaning any hate to other relatives, but bucket list calls and Phase II is on it.

You had a CMC on an IA with you? Lucky. I was only ever surrounded by a sea of green or desert tan. I'm jealous.
