Navy and Marine Corps Starting to Inspect All Privatized Military Housing

The Navy and the Marine Corps have started conducting health and safety inspections of more than 62,000 base houses, a move that will allow the services to meet requirements in the 2020 defense policy law.

The inspections, to be conducted by an independent contractor, began last October for the Navy and Jan. 18 for the Marine Corps. They will be completed by October, according to the services.

      Navy didnā€™t understand well-documented risks posed by Hawaii fuel tanks, watchdog says

      HONOLULU (AP) ā€” Navy officials ā€œlacked sufficient understandingā€ of the risks of maintaining massive fuel storage tanks on top of a drinking water well at Pearl Harbor where spilled jet fuel poisoned more than 6,000 people in 2021, a U.S. military watchdog said Thursday. That lack of awareness came even though officials had engineering drawings and environmental studies that described the risks, the U.S. Department of Defenseā€™s inspector general said.
