RMKS/1.  This NAVADMIN announces the Navy Maternity Uniform Pilot Program 
(MPP), background, planned introduction, program description, eligibility 
criteria and application process. 
 
2.  Background.  In line with reference (a), the Director of the Defense 
Logistics Agency (DLA) in coordination with the Service Secretaries will 
create a pilot program to issue maternity uniforms to pregnant Service 
Members at no cost.  Each Service will determine the number of pilot program 
participants and number and type of maternity uniform components 
issued.  Maternity uniforms and components will be returned to the Service 
after the period of pregnancy or required wear has ended. 
 
3.  Navy MPP Description.  MPP management and oversight will be performed by 
the Director, Military Personnel, Plans and Policy (OPNAV N13) via the Navy 
Uniform Matters Office (OPNAV N13X). Execution management, maternity 
component issue and control and program logistics will be performed by the 
Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM).  The MPP will officially commence on 
2 January 2022 and continue through 30 September 2026.  Applications will be 
accepted upon the release of this NAVADMIN.  During calendar year 2022, the 
Navy will select 400 command approved volunteers comprised of enlisted, 
officers, Active and Reserve Component Sailors from around the Fleet (world-
wide) and issue a full array of authorized Navy maternity uniforms in line 
with reference (b).  Issued maternity uniforms may be worn throughout the 
period of required wear up to 12 months after receipt.  Participant selection 
will occur on a first-come, first-served basis.  Uniforms will be provided to 
participants fully hemmed and with all required sewn-on accoutrements 
attached.  Shipping of components will also be at no cost to the 
participant.  If the 2022 MPP is successful, allowable participation numbers 
will be increased. 
 
4.  MPP Eligibility Criteria.  Participants must meet the following criteria 
for approved participation 
    a.  Have current Navy status of either Active Duty, Training and 
Administration of the Reserves (TAR) or Selective Reserve (SELRES). 
    b.  Be pregnant and in receipt of medical notification or confirmation. 
    c.  Have a minimum of 12 months of obligated service or remaining 
obligated contract from date of request. 
    d.  Have not received nor intend to receive a maternity clothing 
allowance during this period of pregnancy and while participating in this 
program. 
    e.  Abide by the rules and requirements of the program as it pertains to 
receipt, care and return of issued maternity clothing. Participants will also 
be expected to provide periodic feedback on the MPP process, uniforms and 
overall satisfaction. 
 
5.  MPP Application Process 
    a.  Sailors desiring to apply and participant in the MPP should do so 
only after receiving medical confirmation and documentation of their 
pregnancy. 
    b.  After receipt of medical confirmation and documentation, log 
onto https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/References/US-Navy-Uniforms/Maternity-
Pilot-Program/ to review and download the application instructions, 
attachments and information provided. 
    c.  Command approval for participation is required and will be indicated 
in line with the instruction guidance provided on the MPP webpage. 
    d.  Final screening and approval of applications will be performed by 
OPNAV N13X.  Applicants will be notified of receipt and status of their 
request via e-mail.
