I honestly hate when people say stuff like that for the simple fact that it gives you a slight boost of confidence and then you don't get picked up and everyone is left scratching their heads wondering why and you are left having to wait for your turn again.

So after the board adjourns, why does it take that long to get the results out? is it because hey have to go through all the channels to make sure everyone agrees or do they do that before the board adjourns?

I think some tell us things like "This is your year" or something of the like to show support. And, help us stay positive. For me it does help. It is really easy for to negative thoughts when one has to wait as long as we do. However, the down side to all that support is more of a drop if you don't get selected. Weighing the pros and cons I would rather have that support and face the drop than deal with months of being low and a small drop. My half cent of two cents.

On another point. Not a big fan of holding off someone doing or getting something because their "package is strong". It is never strong enough until you have been selected. Besides if you are the right person for it you should get it. On the other hand if it helps out someone else who needs it more than you..... Another half cent of my two cents.

This is just my opinion but they should just have everyone in one place and take a few days to review everything after the board is over and then the results can be released a lot earlier. Just saying hahaha. I know it will never happen that way, but not a bad idea.

After the board is done there are several things that need to happen still. They sift through the parts of your record that the board did not see and look to see if there is anything that would hold up your promotion. Also things that may have come in after the submission dead line. Masts, DUI's, PFA failures, pulling of advancement recommendations, statuses of security clearances. This is the time where people that were selected get the "H". Something has been found that needs to be dealt with before actual promotions can occur. Than the list and record has to be briefed, approvals given, release date finalized, and the announcement message written. All this takes time and causes the delay between board adjournment and announcement.

I sorta figured it was a big mess like that. I know they probably try and get it out as fast as possible. The real countdown begins after this Friday is said and done.

Two scary thought.

1. Have a system set up so that when an advancement recommendation is pull their name is pulled from the pool so a spot does not go to waste. Or, alternates that can fill in if someone can not get it for what ever reason.

2. Electronic routing.

Is it just me, or does it feel like the closer we get the slower time goes? Almost to the point that it feels like someone keeps sneaking in days to the month. I half expect to walk in and see July 32 added to the calendar. "What? July has always had 33 days in it!" And, there it will be: July 33

I have always wondered why PRIMS is not used in the beginning of the board or even at all? Maybe it would unfairly eliminate candidates who have overcome difficulties before getting into reading evals? just a guess...Honestly there is no real incentive to do well on PRTs if it is not even taken into account for the board. All it says on your eval is P for physical readiness. It only really counts if you are a CFL since you have to maintain an excellent or higher or going for BUD/S and special programs. Just my opinion but I feel that physical fitness should play a bigger role than it does not just in boards, but evals as well. I'm not saying it should trump job performance and technical skills but as leaders we should be setting the standard for our Sailors. Done with rant.

Hard call?  That's a no-brainer.  Wife sick = get home. (assuming we're not talking about the flu)

That's why I was force converted.  The submarine force didn't care that my wife was gravely ill.  I overcame, and carried my bubblehead work ethic to my new community.  She's better now, and my Sailors are more competitive than any other department at my last three commands. 

You have to work with the hand you're dealt.  I wouldn't change a single decision or go back and choose a different path - family is #1 period.

I had my AMEC tell me before I checked out that because of a PRT failure, and a few other things that brought my eval to a P that he didn't think it was my year.  I was already thinking that, and I gotta say that I have that much more respect for him saying that to me.  He could have not said anything at all, but he gave me his honest opinion.  This is the first time in the last 6 goes that I've had anyone say anything to me about my chances before the board.  I know myself, and my evals so I don't get my hopes up this time of year so when I get the N it's not a drop for me.  I can't speak for others, but for me personally never having any of the chiefs (except once) in my command(s) talk to me about my chances before or after the results hasn't bothered me.  Only time that I can think of when anything was said or done was when I was training for Afghanistan the CMC had CDB's with all of us that didn't get selected to talk about what we needed to try and focus on for the next year, or when we got back to our commands from IA.

Question ... does anyone know how a PFA pg13 Will affect the Board Process? This last PFA I did the minimum push ups /situps. Passed all categories but was assigned a PG13 for only doing the minimum. New instrution has some funky stuff about being placed on FEP for cautionary reasons? Will it show in my OMPF? and does the board look at that as not fit to put on anchors? I postponed signing as long as i could and i heard that they will just put the Pg13 in your record regardless if you sign or not. Any thoughts?

If you are medically waived, then it is not. It all depends on the LLD and if the CO will sign off on the waiver reccomendation.  We had a guy twist

If done properly, it should only be a local held one.  Once you pass the next mock they could remove you, however I believe the instruction could let them keep you on fep until next cycle.

YES it show up in your OMPF.

Documentation is recorded is only for failures to NPC/OMPF.  Sat scores, which I'm assuming is the score is at command level to assign to FEP.  With the introduction of HIGHS, MEDIUMS, and LOWS some commands might allow only LOWS to go on FEP. 

 

Since the assignment of fep outside of a failure it shouldn't be in the members OMPF.

A page 13, is a page 13, is a page 13...

It falls under the code 32 field. It can say anything the command wants. Whether you should actually be on FEP is academic if the command policy differs from your opinion. 

I have one saying I will not smoke spice. It IS in my OMPF. Along with various other things like Battle E's and death gratuity selection.

Its good to have that but I have seen plenty of those people not make it. I just remain humble and hope for the best and continue to do what I have been doing.

I feel that exact same sentiment having been #1 and SOY.  I did not pick it up that year.  Out of the last 3 SOY's from my previous command, only 1 made it that immediate next cycle. 

Some great advice I have received is to just do what you do best and be yourself.  Stay true to your foundation and return the lessons and training to your junior Sailors as often as you can.  For me personally, leaving a positive impact on my Sailors and having them still reach out to me for advice years later or seeing them advance in their own careers is a great reward.  I want to set the precedence that its never time to just give up or take the easy jobs.
