I was sitting there thinking last night, over a good bottle of protein. And, I honestly don't know what to do if I don't pick it up this year. Just kind of feel like I went full speed for so long, I've run out of stuff to do or achieve. Does anyone else ever get that "so, what now" feeling?

I kind of feel the same way. But as they say, there is always room for improvement. Just have to start thinking outside the box

So there's something that has been on my mind quite a bit. I've heard the board looks more at what one did at sea rather than shore. I made first while on sea duty. Did qualify cow, but never held an overall lpo position. Shore duty, however, I excelled. I was a department lpo, funeral coordinator, caco, watchbill coordinator, soy, number 1 ep, and left with a COM. In your honest opinions, do you think that my performance on sea duty will hender my chances of being selected? I've recieved mixed emotions when talking to leadership. Some say it's all about what you did at sea and others say I've got nothing to worry about. 17 years in, and have never been this stressed.

Like you, I'm also at 17 years and I'm pretty stressed because I'm running out of next times lol. With that being said, I've been told to do the best you can wherever you are and things should work out. The board understands that everyone can't be LPO, especially in very large divisions with multiple FCPO's.  SSP and Sailorization is king, regardless of your billet.

You are right, some say sea duty is better and that's because there is more going on and you can get more done but as long as the board can see your staying busy and that SSP is happening then you will be good. Good luck to you and I hope you get the S!!

@CPO_Pride247  I've had a lot of personal stuff going as well. Goals are constantly changing.

After this I only have one look left. So retirement looms on the horizon.

Theres not much here to jump start after an average year. Plus I transfer for my last tour. Short as it may be

I'm stressing because if I dont make it, it will be a couple of years for me to get back on course.  I came off being SSOY and PCSd to my current command.  Right into revamping the shop and re-motivating the sailors there.  Well since my wife got sick I have been relieved as LPO and coll duties to spend as much time with my wife as possible.  Family is everything and I understand the need for that call to be made.  Its just a hard pill to swollow to just "do-nothing".  Sorry for the debby downer post but feel this is a good forum to vent.  Hope yall get the S!

Regardless, family comes first. That's a terrible situation but it sounds like you were tracking before you transferred so hopefully you'll be good. How were you ranked at your last command? What was the size of your peer group?

I know there are a lot of other factors that play a role in the selection process. You didn't get #1 of 18 for no reason so i'm sure you have a lot of ammo to go with that. Sounds like you got a good shot at AOC to me.

@Tony I saw on the countdown that the 27 July vote is for next year, meaning it says 1 year 13 Days. Just a heads up!

Oh darn! let me fix it before the lynch mob gets me!! Hang on...

Thanks @DeepSea5342, it now reflects 13 days, not 1 yr & 13 days!

No, I got assigned to helo's so their priorities are not aimed towards AO's. Been here for over 4 years, never had an AOC or a Gunner. Just got a Gunner a few months ago with a Chief checking in next month...Had to succeed out of rate just to stand out here so schools weren't even an option. I have heard its an awesome school though. Looking forward to attending in the future.

Awesome. I figured you would want to know before a mutiny was formed and guys started coming after you haha

Yes, it would not be the first time I have had to walk the plank, make it to a deserted Isle, and be able to survive by finding a secret stash.

Okay folks, the countdown has a 13 to 21 window before the Triad release. If you want to vote simply post “vote (selected date)”, I will then update the countdown. Extra dates will be listed below the countdown until there is a 2 vote count where it will then be listed in the top three as appropriate. So don't feel compelled to choose only a date that is there.

Also, if you are lurking, feel free to join the forum and share in the festivities. Family is always welcome too. (we do have a couple of moms as members.)

Anyone who has been the #1 EP, SOY, or both has that feeling and I wouldn't believe anyone who says they didn't because I know I have.  When you strive to be the #1 and then you get there, I found out that is actually the toughest to maintain that because you have the target on your back.  Your peers are in the hunt to claim your spot (rightfully so) and your leadership expects more of you (rightfully so as well).  For me, it's about reinvigorating ideas and taking on things that I didn't prior.  So I know exactly what you mean when you say you went full speed and are in the "so, what now" feeling.  I've been in that zone, however, the good thing for me is that I'm transferring soon so I can look forward to a new challenge and make an impact at a new command.

Lol, I know that feeling. Im #1 EP out of 33, SOY, and I'm also curious how many others are...it sounds like there's more #1 EP's and SOYs then there are quotas lol, that's why when people say "you got it this year" it makes me think (know) there's way more to this than just that. Its good to have that but I have seen plenty of those people not make it. I just remain humble and hope for the best and continue to do what I have been doing.

Sounds like you have a pretty strong record for Chief.

That's where things like LPO, collateral duties, CPO 365, etc. would come into play. I think SOY has a huge advantage though, but let me tell you, I have heard the "you've got it, this is your year" phrase more times than I can count haha

I agree with thre stuff you listed but I also believe that SOY isn't always a lock for anything. Like we have all discussed before, SSP has a lot to do with it and off duty education as well as volunteer work. These are no longer the days of the sailor that can do their job well, it's about the well rounded sailor and I believe that's what SSP is all about

I agree...  I wasn't #1, but I was #2 on my last eval and instructor of the year...  I've also heard the "you've got this" more than I care to count, but I've also seen plenty of top 5 EP's not pick up that year.  The key is to remain humble and always improve.  I wish I learned this earlier in my career, but as they say, better late than never.

I am as well.  I've heard the same as some others, "this is your year", "it'll be hard for the board to deny you this year", and my favorite one, "if you don't make it then you must have pissed off someone somewhere".  I take it with a grain of salt and we'll see how it ends up in a couple weeks.
