I've done the essay parts, but I know that what I have is only a draft and that I will continuously improve and change it as the deadline comes closer. The application is super easy to mess up, because there are multiple places where the coordinating instructions tell you to do something different than what's written directly in the application package itself. It requires you to get into other instructions to find out how to do something or how to fill out a section. I'm almost positive that's done by design.

You are probably most right by that. I find that writing the reasons you want to be an officer the hardest. I have come to the conclusion that you have to go at it like writing an eval or writing a college paper. Start off with a blank piece of paper and hopefully before you run out of eraser, you will have a finished product. Good luck to you. I hope that you get the S but if not I hope you get selected as an LDO, or maybe even get selected for both.

I am past the cutoff for LDO so CWO is all that's left. The only thing with that is I am an LS and Food Service Officer is the only Warrant program for supply. I also really enjoy being a Chief. We will see! Thanks for the encouragement.

Chief,

Why not go Aviation? When I worked S-6 both of my officers were a warrant or is that program gone.

Well then someone needs to update the instruction linked on the LDO/CWO application page on NPC.

You know won't happen for a long time. They are not gonna change it unless something else is added or taken away.

So here's a question to ponder on or you may know right away.

If selected, who is the first person you want to share the news with?

If not selected, who is the person you want to share the news with?

Well if I have the chance to get selected, I would  tell my wife first.

if I don't get selected, I would tell me wife first.

then of course everyone else in the family

So how do you know if you have done enough to make yourself presentable to the board?

That is the million dollar question. I wish I had the ultimate answer. I would say that for each rating there is of course milestones and some have qualifications that should be met at a certain rank. There's the wickets outlined in the precepts along with how your EVALs are written. I would say that if you have an above average combination on all of these you have done what you can do. Sometimes we have done enough and for whatever reason it's not our year. We have all seen that one person that we were certain would be selected and was overlooked. On the other side of that we have seen that one person that made us scratch our heads and ask: Really?

Keep pressing mentors and asking senior leadership how to add value to them, Sailors, and the mission. Keep striving to do your best, remain focused, and add value to anything you can and eventually it pays off. Seek out people who have sat  board and get feedback from them as well.

Thank you, I really appreciate all of the knowledge. I have noticed the same thing as you mentioned, how did they not get selected and then how did that person get selected?  I have heard it mentioned seek out someone hat just sat the board but how do you do that if you don't know anyone on the board?

Go to NPC under CPO selection boards and look at the membership link. You will see the name and rank of every board member. Look them up in outlook and shoot them an email or give them a call. Trust me, they are waiting for people to reach out.  See attached for this year's membership.

I'll look at it again and try to reach out to someone if I'm not lucky enough to get the S this year. Just never really thought to do it because I didn't know if we were allowed to do that. Plus I didn't know if they would want to answer any questions about it.

Hah... yes we are busy... calling all the Chiefs and getting as much time with family as possible ... and refreshing our Naval history knowledge and Anchors Aweigh... But I still check on here in case I can answer any questions to help someone get the S.

Exact situation I'm in.  I was planning on taking leave overseas and then going to my next command, then I thought I'd really rather not spend all that money and then have to cancel it.  Then again, I don't want to not take leave and report hoping that I'm selected and I'm not, although I can take leave later on during my time.  I'll flip a coin and see which way to

343SBE its crazy just waiting to transfer and then not knowing if u might get the S or not. Either way u choose to go it's good to have answers, July 15th is when the board adjourns, so close but got to wait till for the

For some rates there may be only one master chief for that rating, for instance I only saw one PSCM. Do other master chief rates look at your package or only your rate?

Definitly would be my wife for both.  She has been my strongest supporter even while she battles cancer.

I would definitely look at the last couple years of people that sat the board and the recorders.  I didn't know that you could either until someone told me. I was surprised when I looked, I knew about 5 people from the previous years and I know one of the LSCM and CMDCM this year. I plan on reaching out to them wither I make it or not. If I make it I can ask what looked good and pass that down to push sailors into the right spot and if I don't, than what can I do different.

As far as @ET1IWSW I did the same thing when it came to my package and LTB for chief, I reached out to people I didn't know because they don't know me from a hole in the wall and you will get an honest answer.

So a question, a couple years ago this NC1 that I worked with picked up and she had carried around anchors with her for good luck charms, that's what she called it anyways. So, does anyone think that's a good or bad thing to do?

That's actually true. think of the Da Vinci Code, except the characters are members of this forum, some who are an enigma (just like me) and others who hold powerful positions (or have otherwise participated in an AERR!)

As I have been trying so hard to get my mind off the waiting, my one of my Chiefs yelled at me this morning, asking me about a sponsor.  I answered him with "Am I transferring that I did not know about?".  He blatantly said, infront of everybody, "sponsor for when you make it".  And that was when I figured out that I was back at the waiting game again.

He asked me if I think I was going to make the cut.  Me, trying to be humble, said I am not expecting it.  He said I was not competent on my answer, and if I want it, I would get it.  Of course I want it.  He observed on one of the previous boards before, so I asked him to describe me how did the board go.

He explained it thoroughly and omitted the stuff that he could not say to me.  He pretty much called me a dumbass when I said I turned in two LTB's.  The second one was a combination of the first one and some other stuff.  The other stuff meaning my reenlistment contract and training summary.  He said that what if those two MC's looking at your record at 1800 are tired because they have been looking at records since 0600, and they see those things on your package.  He pretty much said better luck next time, but those were not the exact words.  He closed that if it is my time, then it is my time.  He said it is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when.

I told him about this site also, and he asked me how many Chiefs are in our ship.  Just venting.

I know people say that the board looks at your last 5 evals, but i been told by a few chiefs that they could also look at evals before that. What is the board looking at from your E5 evals before the last 5, maybe a tiebreaker or leadership as E5?
