I know it's a little late in the game this year for some advice, but let me say that every FCPO needs to be involved in the FCPOA, POA, NCOA, or whatever association you have a chance to belong to. Think about it like this. Everyone talks about the power of the Chief's Mess and how we work together. This isn't some made up story to make us sound cool. When a Master Chief is looking at your record, one of the things that sticks out is mess and association participation. With that, you don't have to be elected to a position to be involved. The question is why would someone want a person in the Chief's Mess that doesn't want to work with their peers and make things happen. I can tell you that it is obvious which new Chiefs coming in have participated and been involved in a mess before joining the Chief's Mess and even more obvious is the CPOs that haven't.

I have spoken with several of my mentors and one of the things they all asked me was if my command had an active CPO 365 program and if so, what was my level of participation. Luckily for me, I have not only participated, but I have COORDINATED and LEAD trainings for a large group of Chiefs and FCPOs and made sure that was documented in evals. If you can jump on the chance to lead a training, whether it is PT or class training, I would recommend doing so.

What if you were doing work ups and deployed for most of the year and could not participate in most of the training? Is this looked down upon? We were gone for a majority of the year so taking an active roll in CPO 365 was not possible. I participated in the training that I could, but my leadership thought that stating "participated in XX CPO 365 training" would be invaluable compared to other bullets I had. Thoughts?

Some said it earlier in this thread, if it doesn't have the "so what" factor or some other impact statement tied to it - that's just a wasted bullet. Doesn't matter if you participated in 100% of 365 events if you can't show how your involvement effected a positive impact. 365 is mandatory, just showing up isn't an accomplishment.

To your first point, the precepts are written to take into account operational tempos, arduous duty assignments, deployments, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about taking a hit for missing 365 events because you were actually earning your paycheck at sea.

Hypothetically, if your on PCS leave and you get the S in route to your next duty station, will u do Phase 2 at your current command or next or does it depend on circumstance?

Exact situation I'm in.  I was planning on taking leave overseas and then going to my next command, then I thought I'd really rather not spend all that money and then have to cancel it.  Then again, I don't want to not take leave and report hoping that I'm selected and I'm not, although I can take leave later on during my time.  I'll flip a coin and see which way to proceed.

343SBE its crazy just waiting to transfer and then not knowing if u might get the S or not. Either way u choose to go it's good to have answers, July 15th is when the board adjourns, so close but got to wait till August.

Doesn't seem like August will come fast enough.

I can't agree with you more. Even though this year seems like it has flown by, the month of July will seem like an eternity. You will find that the days creep, while the weeks go fast. Try and keep busy and hopefully you will get some good news here in less than a month. If anyone is in the Jacksonville area, I am closing out Phase I with a speed mentoring event. Let me know if you'd like to attend and I will gladly give you the details.

What is worse is that I am on leave until the 15th so I have all this time to think. I am doing pretty good at not letting it distract me. Staying busy as much as I can. Well I know when I get off of leave the board will have adjourned. Plus it helps being west coast cause the day seems to go by a little faster knowing the board is east coast

Don't know if anyone else noticed.... They posted the FY-17 SELRES/FTS selection results under the AC CPO Boards on NPC.  I saw that this morning and it made my heart skip a beat.

I'll be taking leave at the end of July to spend time with my family to take my mind off of things at work and to kinda "prepare" for the results.  Either way, I am looking forward to it.  If not this year, I have one more look next year.

Here is a question for everyone. So my next command is going on deployment soon but I'm not scheduled to get there until December. They want me to get there prior to the deployment which is fine. My question is how bad would a 1 of 1 eval compared to a ranked eval look to the board if I'm leaving early to fill the billet for deployment.  I was told I could write something like " Sailor would have been #4 EP out of 67 if stayed, Member is leaving early to fill seagoing deployment commitment."

From what i have been told is that as long as you maintain that SSP and it shows on your eval then it shouldnt affect you. also, the board is not supposed to look at you transferring in a negative light. sometimes it is out of your hands that you have to transfer. i am pretty sure you have read the precept and the convening order. it states that in there just in case, i didnt really answer your question, the way you wanted me too. Good luck to you on getting that S.

I read the precepts and convening order but I always ask, it's a bad habit but I guess to get more clarity.  I guess anything to get out of Lemoore and back to sunny San Diego

Never doubted you did. I am the same way, I like to make sure that it is really clear and I fully understand. I understand how you feel, I'm stationed in lemoore as well.

So here's a fun question.  Do y'all think active duty results will come out first week of August or last week of July?

My guess is Triad on the August 3rd, public on the 4th.  Or Triad on the 4th, public on the 5th.  This way Phase 2 can start first thing Monday and have a full 6 weeks of training.  That's my guess....

I agree with Doc-Bigmac. I think we will know by Aug 3rd and public release will be the 4th. That timeline lines up perfectly with everything. Plus I already have that date marked in my phone so that means it's most likely going to happen :P

I looked at the weeks and for a pinning ceremony on the 16th I would say a triad release on the 4th and public on the 5th. That's right around 6 weeks. Who knows what's gonna happen. Also depends on if the board adjourns on time and if they are any hiccups after that. Either way, it's about to get real nerve racking soon, especially after the 15th

I agree with the dates above, as long as Noah doesn't decide to sail his Ark through Millington again.

from what i have seen, the results are usually released on a thursday or friday and the 4th and 5th are both. it will give selectees the weekend to get their stuff together and spend the time with their families

You should probably be spending time with families now and not worry about the weekend after results come out. All selectees are required to attend Chief Select Training prior to the start of Phase II. It is a 3 day course so you can do the math based on the dates you mentioned above. Getting CST done will take priority over that weekend. I may or may not know what I am talking about. :graphics-3d-smileys-313328:

i am doing alot of that already. i have been spending as much time with them as possible, just in case of the chance that i do get selected. this year. i didnt know about the CST, and of course you know what you are talking about. you have been through it and i haven't. i never doubted your knowledge of the season and what happens.

No worries, I just didn't want people to think that the weekend after will be clear. CST is the equivalent to PO INDOC for Chief Selects. It's actually an awesome course and I love to go and sit in it myself just to remember why I'm a Chief. I hope to see you selected!

I learn something new everyday, thank you for the knowledge. we will see what happens this year, just hoping for the best. Thank you for the good wishes.

That definitely takes up quite a bit of time. Especially the essay portions. I saved those for last and when it came time to write why I wanted to be an LDO/CWO I couldn't come up with a good reason, so I didn't submit my application and package. Make sure you have it looked at  by multiple people. Looking at last year's results quite a bit weren't even considered because they had errors on them. Good luck with that!

Well, I hope you find a reason and apply! :)
