That one guy the Wing building out in K-bay is named after?  Heard the ordies talking about him when I was stationed in El Centro.  They would take a pilgrimage to his residence a few times a year.  (I mean no disrespect by the remarks)

To add to that, the only AO ever to receive a MOH in Naval History

Yes, he is the "GodFather" of AOs. He is the only AO to receive the Medal Of Honor from WWII during the attack on Pearl Harbor. No disrespect taken

I learned about him, and his heroic deeds, my first tour in Hawaii when I was getting my wings since the Wing building is named after him.  I've never met the man, but respect him none the less.  Also having spent time hanging out with AO's I know the pride felt in the Ordie world.  Some times I forget that I've been fortunate enough to live on places like Ford Island (before they tore down all the old hangars to make room for housing).  I might be remembering wrong, but the barracks I lived in was the old hospital.

When I sat down with him, he explained the whole story of that day from beginning to end. It was so awesome

Talk about a role model. And that would have been so great to hear the whole story from him.

It definitely was a once in a lifetime chance to do that. One of the most humbling times in my life and career. He was truly genuine and humble.

How many times have you been up? What helped you get the SOY? Does your Evals reflect all of it? I know it is stressful but don't let your junior sailors see it. Good Luck to you and I hope that you get the S

Nice. Same here. This is the best shot I've had yet. How about yourself?

Good luck to you brother. To be honest I don't know, I have completed a lot over the years and tried to do the best that I can. but who knows what's going to happen, I hope it is my year but if not I know that I will have more "ammo" for the fight next year.

The resume gets better every year, right? Well the best of luck to you man! Hopefully we both get that S and stick with the "third times a charm" group

Yes it has, so we will see and I hope the best of luck to you as well and I agree, hopefully we will be in that group.

So I checked NAC and last year they posted on July 27th that the results would be released a week later, Wednesday, Aug 5th. SO! My prediction is that next Monday (July 25th) we should hear the date they will be released. Boom.

Boom is right. Too bad I checked out of my command, I was ESO and for 3 years I would know who made it on triad day because our Master chief wanted statistics on selectees to the previous year! He also knew i wasnt up for it until this year. Now I'll just be waiting!

Results will most likely be out two weeks prior to finishing a seven month deployment. Leave is already approved, but i haven't bought the ticket to fly home early (leave starts a few days prior return to home port) to surprise my family due to the time-frame the results should be released in case my name is on that list. Any advise?

This may have already been discussed, so I apologize in advance. Some of my chiefs asked how my progress was on the CPO 365 PQS. Sadly, I told them not very much. Word to the wise, get as much of the PQS done now before results come out. One from personal experience told me that it will be quite painful having to explain why you havent completed it, or explain the lack of progress. Needless to say I have started taking the notes and am working on getting it completed. No real excuses, just didnt do it :(:(

Probably a good idea to get that thing caught up. Want it to be as painless as possible. Expecting a lot of pain regardless of how prepared we are. lol.

In the past, there have been several "Lone Wolf" predictions regarding the release date that turned out to be true.

Please do not rush the PQS just to have it for Phase II. The idea behind the PQS is that each of you go to training if possible, and if not go and discuss it with a CPO and get a signature. As was stated above having it completed or not having it completed is going to result in the same 6 weeks of training. I would rather someone show up with theirs halfway done knowing they took time throughout the year to sit with different CPOs and get to know them and show they are brilliant on the basics rather than someone show up 100% because they rushed it.

Secondly, and this is the only free advice I will give you prior to the start of Phase II, but how does it look when you show up 100% complete and your other selectees do not have theirs complete or even have them at all? Just something to think about.

One interpretation I have is that the person who was 100 percent done but his/her fellow selectees that are not done could be asked why they didnt help or encourage their brothers and sisters. I think it is good that one is self motivated and is able to get things done, but as we move up in the ranks and become part of the different messes, the ability to work as a team is crucial. I could be way off, but that is one view that I have.

As OS1/CCC stated, it will be a painful process, no matter what happens. However, I am willing to learn anything to become a better leader for my Sailors.

Because phase II is now mandatory, I would assume that they would encourage you to cancel your leave. It would look really bad if you didn't. We had this discussion with some leadership and they said "we can't force you to cancel your leave, but it would be a good idea if you did"

I also have leave at the end of Aug.. In fact I have 24 days use or lose and I am sure I wont be able to take all of them before end of FY. I have been told I can take leave, no prob, during phase 2, from work, but not from phase 2 activities (CPO selectee FTS here).

I always thought phase 2 was mandatory.

Yeah I have heard of those before and I have heard those are the ones that elected not to go through phase 2. But I don't understand why someone would chose not to, phase 2 is something that is earned and to not go through it is like a slap in the face, I don't know that's just how I feel.

And you are entitled to your opinion. Everyone has a different story to tell.

The bottom line is that you can not help any Sailors in the right way without the help or backing of the Global Mess.

I totally agree with you on that. If there is a reason why someone can't go through phase 2 then understandable but if they just chose not to then that's a different story. It is a once in a life time opportunity to go through phase 2 and I will not pass that up when it is my turn to go through it.

Phase II became mandatory this year in the new MCPON's Guidance. Phase II is evolving and with it you will have some growing pains and people who are not receptive to change. Phase II isn't about turning you into a CPO in 6 weeks. Most of you will pin your anchors on just like we all have and still have time to grow into your khakis and the amount of responsibility and hardwork that come with them.

One of the terms I have grown to dislike is: Well, this is how I was brought up in the Navy. The fact is we are a professional organization and anyone who thinks they are above Honor, Courage, and Commitment regardless of rank hasn't evolved or been receptive to the fact that treating people with respect and developing them to take our place is our greatest job as leaders. We all have a duty to grow everyday and make our best effort to treat one another with respect and in a professional manner. There should be a purpose to anything we do to include training and Phase II. Not everyone gets this.

And if I am lucky enough to make it then I won't take it for granted. I am always willing to grow and change to make my junior sailors better along with myself. I wish everyone did understand that the training and learning never stops
