Not selected. I think i know what it was but have no clue how to get past it. or fix it. Anyway congrats to all my fellow firsts who made it, I did find out two very close friends both made HMC, so im proud and happy for them, 7 years of No is starting to take its toll....

I definitely understand how you feel.  I'm active duty, and this is my ninth look.  To be honest, I have no clue how I'd react in the event that I get another N...  It does weigh on you, but the key is to keep pushing.  It doesn't matter if you fall, but it does matter if you get back up.

So look #6 was another "N" for me.  And honestly, I'm okay about it.  Am I disappointed?  Yes, of course.  Am I angry?  Yep, a little.  Did I look at the list ask "what the heck" when I saw certain names on there?  Yes, I sure did.  But I also looked at the list and saw a lot of names that I loved, names that have deserved it for years, names that have worked hard, gone above and beyond to help and train Sailors....names that are going to amazing Chiefs.

For me, the bottom line is this:  not making Chief sucks, anytime you are committed to a goal and you don't meet that goal, it sucks.  BUT, not making Chief does not make me any less of a Sailor.  I will still continue to provide world class customer service to Sailors that call/email me.  I will still, happily, answer the phone and provide the correct answer to a Sailor that has been searching for it.  I will still come to work everyday and I will still feel that twinge of pride when someone calls me and says that they got my name from "so-and-so" because "so-and-so"  knew I would give them the correct gouge.  My level of commitment to the Navy does not change because I was not selected.  In three years (and eight months), when I retire, whether I retire with Anchors or not....I will be able to look back at my career and know that I did it well.

Please take this away, you don't need Anchors to help Sailors, sometimes Sailors just need someone to listen and we all have two ears, sometimes Sailors just need a smile and we're all capable of that.  Sometimes Sailors just need YOU to make their day, their career, their life a little bit better.  And regardless of rank or rate, YOU are capable of that.

5 weeks I am thinking before active duty results. Getting closer

I'm guessing the last week of July for ACDU results since it came out last week of June for FTS/SELRES...26 July triad notification, 27 July public notification

If only you were right.  This waiting game is really bothering me.  Last year, a month before selection, I had a dream that I got selected, but I did not when the results came out.  3 weeks ago, I had almost the same dream.  Hopefully, the results will be different. Ha.

Last year, the results came out 5AUG for AC.

Instead of sounding like a record and saying how sorry I am, which I know kind of helps but not really. I am going to say this and hope it helps. I have an idea of what your are going through. Like many others I have been there too, and are going through it. I think I am on something like look number 9. And, yes it takes a toll on you. It does on all of us. You are most certainly not alone. But, what you can look at this as a gut check. What kind of person/ leader are you going to be. I believe you are the kind that will get up and go stronger and harder than you ever did before. I know this is a weird way of looking at it. But, part of what I think that makes things like earning Anchors so special is not only are they earned. It is the level of people that don't make it. Kind of look at it like this. You see someone that you think is an awesome leader and performer get passed over. You just can't believe they didn't make it. What does that say about the level of performance of those that did? And, what does it say about someone that is told "No" over and over again. Keeps fighting until they finally get the "Yes". Both say so much about the Anchors and those that wear them. The more you have to fight to earn them the more they will mean to you and those around you. Don't look at this as a set back. It is an opportunity for they to be more meaningful and you to be better for when you do earn them.

And as far as your issue. Something I have learned over the years and I think is part of the toolbox on the road to Chief is this. You only ever really need to be able to answer one of two questions. 1. Who do I call to get the answer? and 2. Who can I call to get pointed in the right direction of someone that has the answer?

Even for the Active duty side I have meet a lot of people that didn't have this and were not selected. It didn't seem like a big deal but I mean it is. I have been told that what is in the Precepts is golden and that is the board checklist. I didn't do mine until after I found out I made board so hopefully that doesn't effect me negatively. I try to let everyone know that they should do it. If you need help, let me know and I will do my best to help.

Congrats to everyone that got selected yesterday especially to the new LSC, since I'm a LS1 but seriously that's awesome. I was told that if I get selected remember where I came from and that some sailors don't get selected first time or at all but it will be your job to set them up the best way you can, so they can put there best foot forward. Good luck in a month or so when active comes out, I'm stoked and humble at the same time.

Don't worry.  Being an LS with my previous commands I had zero chance at ever passing the exam.  When I did in the 7 percentile, I knocked out both courses after and submitted it with my LTB and got selected SELRES.

Thanks.... I still can't believe I made it. I had all blocks checked but have less than 10 years in and thought that would be a deal breaker... Apparently not... I just learned not to share  the feeling of surprise anymore because many Chiefs told me... hmm... I see you re not ready yet to become a Chief. I just have to let it sink in and own it!

Thank you and hopefully it doesn't hurt me, same thing with my MTS, I didn't get it done until after the board results came out. Congrats on making LSC!!!

I wanted to respond to a couple different post but to many. For everyone that has been up 5, 6 or even 7 times, I don't know how that feels because this is my first time and I'm just trying to be humble about it. I can tell you that it took me 9 times to make LS1 and I made it on my last shot right before HYT. Remember that wither you're going up for Chief or even 1st and don't make it, it's how you react to the situation that your junior sailors see. Everyone has been told praise in public, council in private and same should be the same for the results.

Looking over the precept and some of the things that they are looking for. I know not everyone has everything that the board is looking for and they still make it. I know I don't have everything but what do they look at then?

As you know, SSP is king.  The things that they look for in particular are listed in the convening order.  Documented leadership of your Sailors, how your leadership positively affected your command, and leading of peers and subordinates through CPO 365 and the FCPOA/POA are huge from what I've been told.  In addition, PME has been big for the last couple of years.

Right, i have looked over that as well. I have tried my best to hit all the wickets and be the best leader that I could for my sailors and help them out with their careers. Unfortunately the past few commands that I have been at have not utilized CPO 365, and if they have it has been very few and far between. Just like all first classes, it's my goal to get the S and honestly I think that maybe the board can come up with a system to let us know what we need to work on and stuff like that

I wish that the CPO Board would provide feedback as well, but with the number of eligible FCPO's, it would be virtually impossible to do in a timely manner.  With that said, if the commands that you were stationed at did not have an active CPO 365 program, that would've been something to address in you LTB.  The LTB is your tool to communicate with the board if there are any ambiguities in your record.  I had to do something similar to explain why I went from USS Bunker Hill to NAVMEDCEN SD to USS Cape St George to COMLCSRON ONE (I went LIMDU twice due to knee issues).

I didn't know that you could communicate information like that to the board, I knew it was what we used to send missing record data in, but didn't know that. I have gone limdu before as well. I went from sea duty for a year and some change then to limdu shore duty for six months and now back on sea duty so having 2 transfer Evals in that amount of time hopefully won't hurt me.

Nope. I have USMAP but never finished anything. Have volunteer hours (Big Brother Big Sister, etc.) but never got an MOVSM because I never really wanted one. I don't feel okay to get something in exchange for volunteering my time for a great cause.
