FY 15 Chief Selection Board

Recommended Posts

First post on here. The anticipation is killing me. When I first made board then when I seen the advancement quotas my confidence level was there is no way I will not make it, now as it gets closer I think of all the reasons I will not get the "S". Just preparing for the disappointment, and hoping for the best.

Are you Non-AEGIS?  If so, 40% is outstanding!

Hello all. Lots of great rumors and information being passed.

Wish I had a great rumor to start but sadly I do not. Good luck to all. For those who are not Selected, don't give up. You don't have to be a Chief to make a difference in a Sailor's life. Work hard, do your best, and don't worry so much about where you fall out. When it's your time, it's your time.

Lurking with anticipation. Would love to know what everyone went in with like last five, major quals, volunteer, mess participation, collaterals. This way when people announce the big S we can decipher the mythical unicorn code.

Oldest to newest, last five years:

E-5 concurrent EP

E-5 EP #2 of 95

E-6 frocking EP, 1 of 2 in the frocking group to get EP.  Leader of 30 sailors

E-6 Transfer EP.  Leader of 30 sailors

E-6 NOB, C school

E-6 Transfer MP (thought this was bad at first but someone said the fact that I got an observed eval coming from under instruction is actually good).  Leader of 60 sailors.

E-6 NOB.

E-6 MP.  LPO of small (<10 sailors) forward deployed detachment.

JPME/PPME completed and got my degree.  Rate three warfare devices and seven NECs.  Deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan.  Three personal awards, including one for combat.  Most importantly, all evals have strong language reflecting deckplate leadership, sailorization, and mentoring of subordinates.  Don't care about the rest.

That being said, competition is extremely keen this year and they aren't making many new chiefs.  If quotas at least hold steady I might be competitive next year, but right now there are way too many people who have more than earned their anchors a half dozen times over in front of me.  I am patient and I can wait.

Oldest to newest,

E-6 Xfer EP

E-6 Welcome aboard P

E-6 MP Rinc Qual'd, Mess involvement and volunteer

E-6 MP Rinc of Large station, LPO of 4 recruiters, BPME, IPME

E-6 Xfer EP return to sea

E-6 NOB from Dahlgren

E-6 NOB first yr onboard

E-6 #1 MP, LPO (21 sailors), FCPOA Pres, ACMEO/CAT leader, Dept 3MA, quals from AAWC down, Command CSAAD Sponsor,  JSOQ/SOY from my division.  Awarded MOVSM and chaired 4 SOQ boards along w/ running the Multi-cultural committee.

Disclaimer:  I'm not hogging collaterals.  You'd be amazed how many people are content with working in their division, but not helping the command.  I was asked to take on more responsibility and accepted.  Since my last eval, I have turned over quite a few of my collaterals to better focus on my sailors.

PPME completed in April 2014 and now Acting LCPO until Feb 2015 or permanently if I get selected.

25% chance this year.  I feel I have a stronger case next yr, but I still stand a chance this yr.

Techie I am non-aegis so if I don't make it this year probably not going to happen

40% is crazy good for you guys.  Wish I was non-AEGIS this time of yr!  I know a lot of good Non-AEGIS guys.  Got a THawk tech onboard that probably will pick up this yr.

worse I have to go running with him...I'm an out of shape mother of 3. I just want to sit on the couch and eat my ice cream in peace.

I feel your pain, well I don't have an excuse.  I'm just a lazy gamer who needs to get up and about.  As for %s if I don't make it this year, I'm going to take a week of leave for some self reflections =0

Pretty solid.  You definitely will make it far with the work that you have put in.  Hopefully it will be far enough to get that "S".

Reserve Board= 5 weeks and 4 days until results were released. If that's true for us, looks like 31 July / 1 Aug time frame. This also puts the Selects in the 6 week window.

If you don't mind me asking, why a transfer MP?

Yes, but how long was it from the time the board finished until they were released? If the board took longer than ours then maybe it could be earlier.

Here's a question for y'all....

Would you rather have the results speculation stay as is or know that it would always be released on a set date like say the last Wednesday of July?

To me the speculation is half the fun....all the my master chief told me this, rumor that, etc keeps it a bit exciting.

I'd rather have a set date, particularly this go around.  This is my last shot and I have a lot of important decisions on hold - decisions that affect my family.  My kids have school starting in August, either where I am or where I'm retiring to.   If I do make it, do they start here and switch at the semester, or do they miss (potentially) 4-6 weeks of school?  I know for a fact I'm transferring (my current command inactivates 30 Sep); how certain would my orders be so I can send them ahead?  (I don't want to send my family to my new location just to have my orders changed.) Bear in mind, two out of my three are in high school, so graduation requirements are a huge factor.  (Is there a particular reason the CPO results release butts up against the beginning of school?)  Plus, I have folks coming in from out of town for (most likely) my retirement ceremony who can't make reservations yet.  And I cannot possibly be the only one in this situation.

Even the people who enjoy the speculation and the total mind [CENSORED] this is have to admit that productivity comes to a screeching halt when it gets close to results coming out.

Just give me a date certain and be done with it.

End of rant.

I feel the same, if not selected this year, there's more to showcase next year.

Nice resume. I too am cautiously optimistic....this is how I stack up

MAY 13: Transfer EP - Sea

NOV 12: MP above average (unranked) - Sea

NOV 11: P - Sea

APR 11: Transfer EP (call out 1 of 26 in write up) - Sea
