I did not send a summary letter. From my own interpretation of the precepts if your record is up to date and correct it will speak for itself if you have been performing. The proof is already there no need to toot your own horn! That's just my take on it. The number one factor for selection is sustained superior performance as per a PRCM that has sat at least one selection board for the past 5 years.

Exactly,  As an AEGIS FC I can only go to AEGIS Cruisers or Destroyers.  It's definitely what you do while you are there.  NPC has career paths showing where you should be at xx years of service.  I strive to stay ahead of that.  Just doing that is setting you ahead of the norm.

I've seen the career path and was wondering if they actually used those to see if you were ahead on your quals, thank you for clearing that up. Do they also look at the year groups? For example, I noticed that ther were no chiefs (for AEGIS FCs) for any year group '03 or later. Would the board then look to advance mostly people after that year group then? Or would they go for the '03 group and earlier, basically eliminating the chance for anyone in '04 or later?

so, i know i said if i was selected i would buy a bike but, at this point, i wanted one now so, i went out and bought one. its my "regardless of what happens" gift.  rather it be for 20 years of loyal and dedicated service or for selection.  either way, im riding again.  got me a 13' yamaha FZ8 :graphics-3d-smileys-082254:

quick poll. who all submitted Summary Letters with packages? That will give us a reference on maybe if it helped or not when results come out.

I DID, ONLY because according to my OMPF, I was missing many many qualifications on top of being qualified an engineroom watch on a boat i never served on.  Also a good buddy of mine submitted last year just to make sure all his accomplishments were readily available in one spot for the board.  He made it.

That was part of my reasoning as well. If you have errors in your record the NAVADMIN tells you to address that error in a statement with your cover letter not a career summary, so I just steered clear of it. I am sure it won't hurt or help they probably just move it to the side and look at exactly what the precepts tell them to look at they really don't have time to do anything else.

I did.

I did not submit a Summary Letter, all that I sent in were my Letters of Designation that were not in my OMPF. I was always told that as long as my OMPF/NSIPS were up to date, then I didn't have to submit anything, the designation letters were just insurance that the board looked at my qualifications.

so there I was taking some of my YNs out on the tour of the USS SOMERSET (she's beautiful too, i'd get stationed aboard with no hesitation) when I ran into takearoundturn by chance, cool guy as well, we chatted some, and then I come back to 93 pages, 100 pages will be broken by monday

 

so how did you know it was takearoundturn? I know he wasn't wearing his profile pic?!?  :huh:

So I completed my USMAPS Journeyman several years ago. It's not loaded into my OMPF and I never thought to submit this document to a board. I did submit a letter to the board this year and included my USMAPS Certificate of Completion. Does anyone think waiting several years to add this certificate to my LTB would harm my chances of selection. I completed this Cert back in 2005 before I was eligible. I have spoke with others who thought it would still be an important document to submit regardless of the date of the achievement.

I did.

 

I did. I was acting on the advice of a Master Chief who sat the board. I got the format from one of my Chiefs going up for Senior Chief, who was advised by a Master Chief who sat the Senior Chief board to submit one. I know a lot of people got advised otherwise, so it just confirms my suspicion that there is a whole lot of personal preference and subjectivity going on at these boards.

While I know there are lots of people in the Navy, I also know we tend to get stationed with the same people quite a bit in my husband's rate, even if it is a few years apart. I worry that someone who didn't like him might be the one reviewing his package and decide not to select him for promotion based on some personal grudge rather than my hubs service record.

I was told that the board members for your rate group will see your eval with your name, but eventually they don't even bother looking at the names because they are trying to get through so many records. I can definitely imagine that. When it goes into the tank, the only thing displayed is the SSN or last 4 maybe. This info comes from that same Master Chief who debriefed us.

I remember reading some board brief or presentation about this particular scenario not too long ago.  Two separate board members grade members records.  If their is a dramatic difference between the two a third will be asked to review the record.  This prevents your above mentioned scenario from occuring.  Additionally, during the voting process to choose who is going to be a selectee for that particular group no names are used or seen.

anyone who doesn't play politics will have "odd encounters" at times, lol, brush it off, there's still a job to be done and Sailors to take care of

Support the mission, lead for your Sailors, and always seek more technical and professional knowledge and everything else will fall into place!

it was just one chief who did that...about 2 years later the guy finally figured it out but it was still funny when he came home and told me that. He's also insulted officers to their face and then been recommended for awards by said insulted officer so it can go either way

Well just remind him if he is accepted into the CPO ranks the primary job of the Chief is to train and mentor junior personnel and officers insulting them won't help anyones cause.

I understood you the first time. A Chief would never insult an Officer. More like train and mentor that Officer on what they are doing wrong.

to be fair the officer did cause a fire hazard and didn't understand why it was a fire hazard. put paper over electrical panels to the point they couldn't get into them.

I here you on that, Officers sometime do things that don't make sense. That's when the Chief has to step in and train train train! That's how you fix people that do things a lil sideways ahahahaha.
