FY 15 Chief Selection Board

Recommended Posts

Guest Blondie

My confidence is low but I can't help but be hopeful. The RP community is small and that means selection for Chief is tough. Just can't believe it went from 27% chance to 12% in a cycle. Some of the RPs I'm competing with for 1 of 6 spots are some of the RP1s who taught me coming up the ranks. I would hate to see my name knowing I have 10 yrs to make it before I'm forced out. Some of my fellow RPs are facing retirement and I would hate to see the great knowledge and leadership go away. Whomever is chosen is very deserving of the honor of becoming a Chief.

One of the guys who made board with me was a PO1 when I came in...  I don't think I'll be chosen ahead of him (or at all this year), but it's a weird feeling to know the board is reviewing both of our packages.

I have students that I taught in "A" school years ago that I saw on the SBE list. Kind of crazy.

I know the feeling. Its pretty common nowadays though. Think about it...when we came in there was no EP giving you an early year.  We had to wait the full 3 years.  I've seen sailors make 3rd then 2nd first time up then get that EP that 2nd year and take the exam early.

I was selected SSOQ as well, but selected for Chief or not I know I will still be here since I don't have an LCPO right now.

I wonder on a scale of 1-10, how confident everyone is of there chances. Right now I'm at about a 5. In May, I was around an 8. Seems like it drop everyday! Lol. Good news is that my confidence level for next yr is a 10.

Well let's see.  No, I'm not bragging but:

Each evaluation shows how many folks I led that got advanced

2013 1 of 30 EP

2013 SOY

2012 #1 MP (So basically #7 1st Class) then in 2013 I jumped over a few that are still here to get #1

1st Quarter SOQ

CSOOW

ESWS Coordinator

All PPMEs and JPME

AS Degree and working on BS (Ha BS LOL)

Various other things

I feel my chances are about .005%.  Yeah .005%.  I feel that no matter how hard I work that there are others out there that are more deserving and much better than I am.  People tell me I should have faith and I do but I know that sometimes how we see ourselves is not the entire picture. It really IRKS me when people tell me to go ahead and buy my khakis or that I'm a shoe in.  I like to stay humble and continue to do my work on a daily basis.

Yeah, i know the feeling of early birds catching up.  We had a guy go from HN to HM1 in one duty station.  That put him a First Class in less than 6 years.  He's not eligible this year but next year.... we'll see.

As far as confidence level...  It's my third year up for the board, got my MOVSM, got my degree, solid sea shore rotation, PME, i got all the little wickets...  confidence = 6/7.  But we'll just have to wait and see what happens.  The Corpsman community is one of the toughest in the Navy.  Even with our numbers, 19.02% chance of promotion is tough.   Good Luck to All!!

I think the only thing I don't have is SOQ....I have everything else plus I have the DoD SAPR cert which is kind of a big deal. Along with the PPME, JPME, MOVSM, JCOM, ALCPO documented in my #2 of 18 eval, USMAPS, 2 security NEC's and my SSP...still praying but, my package looks 10x's better than last year

Anyone transfering at the end of July? Well my transfer date is August 1st. I have to report to school by August 9th. I wonder what would happen if I'm selected since the billet is not a Chief billet. It is also a special program. I have soo many things to think about right now because these results could change alot. My ultimate duty station after school is also in Japan. My family and I have already made all preps for the move. On another note I received my transfer eval. I got a transfer EP with mention of being ranked 1 of 95 by my Commanding Officer. I'm happy about that just in case a I didnt get selected this year. My previous evals were 1 of 92 EP and 3 of 69 EP at this command.

Last Command:

I was an interesting case.  I was TAD to a separate command for four years and received regular/concurrent evals.  They were good evaluations, but my summary group was small because I was only ranked with Sailors from my parent command that were also TAD with me. I'm an ATO1 up for ATOC, but my last command that I was TAD to was an FRC so I have both I-level and O-Level experience and have documented SSP at both.  Any who, these are my stats:

I'm a early candiate I only have one E-6 evaluation:

E-6 EP 1 of 2

E-5 EP, P, MP, MP, EP

Branch LPO of 49 Sailors (48 percent advancement rate within my branch, doubled personnel qualifications)

Departmental Career Counselor (85 percent retention rate), Assistant Command Security Manager (managed 563 clearances), ADAMS/AWARE Facilitator (instructed 103 Sailors), CTT.

Selected for SSOQ, SSOY for two levels (I was selected for SSOQ and SSOY to the command I was TAD to)

Documented volunteer service.

Completed Intro, Basic, and Senior Enlisted PMEs.

Have BS completed in Electrical Engineering, currently in work on Master's.

I transferred in February of this year and am now a "C" school instructor.

I'm interested to see how this board plays out for us AT's since they are merging the ATIC and ATOC into one selection pool.

Best of luck to everyone!

Hello all, I am new to forum and enjoy getting everyone's perspective and the sharing of ideas. I would like to think that I have a pretty good shot this year. NJP IN 2008 has slowed be down a bit, but should be an issue this year. Here is what my look consists of this year. All of this is either documented in my evals and/or was included in my package:

LS1(SW/AW), 14 years of service, made 1st on Sep 2007 exam, 5-time vet of CPO exam.

NOV 13: MP above average (unranked) - Shore

MAY 13: Transfer EP - Sea

NOV 12: MP above average (unranked) - Sea

NOV 11: P - Sea

APR 11: Transfer EP (call out 1 of 26 in write up) - Sea

NOV 10: EP (5 of 27) - Sea

NOV 09: P - Sea

Highlights:

LPO at sea leading 62 Sailors (CVN) and LPO at sea leading 11 Sailors (VFA Squadron)

Collaterals: Instructor, ESWS Program Advisor, EAWS Program Manager

Awards: 6 NAMs, MOVSM, 2-time SOQ (once at squadron and once on CVN)

QUALS/DESIG: 5 NECs, USMAP, Master Training Specialist

EDUC: PPME, Bachelor of Science

Solid Sailorization and advancement stats documented in evals

NJP: AUG 2008 (should not be an issue this year)

My Chain of Command seems to think I have a pretty good shot. I would love to hear your thoughts - good or bad...

Looks solid to me and the fact that the NJP will not be in the past 5 years makes it look  even better.  Ive been in 14 years, made PO1 the same cycle as you, and this too is my 5th time up.  I know a lot of Chiefs that have made it on their 5th time up at the 14 year mark (i don't know if thats coincidence or not).  Hopefully history repeats itself for us this year.  Your evals have the "saw tooth" effect which I have heard is a plus! Good Luck!

I hear you on staying humble. I try to do the same. Reading the precept, it looks pretty good for us, but I would NEVER buy khakis prior to being in the list. I'm not the one to buy into jinks, but I just would not feel right jumping the gun like that.

Based on what I read in the precept you look real good. Being a former instructor, you have the Sailorization and you have the mentorship plus LPO. Hopefully, this will be our year. Good luck.

This was my 5th look and I got selected this year with 17+ years in. I hope to see some more get selected here.
