Navy ship runs aground after leaving West African port
A U.S. Navy ship participating in a military exercise in the Gulf of Guinea ran aground this week as it was leaving a port in West Africa. The expeditionary sea base USS Hershel “Woody” Williams got stuck around 1 p.m. Thursday, shortly after leaving Libreville, Gabon, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa said Friday in a statement. Navy Sailor Killed In San Diego Rollover Crash
SAN DIEGO, CA — A man killed last weekend in a rollover crash in San Diego was identified as a U.S. Navy Sailor from Riverside County, authorities said. Tyjuan Mayfield, 18, of Perris crashed the Nissan Maxima he was driving around 4:05 a.m. Sunday on southbound state Route 163, north of Friars Road near Mission Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol and San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. The car veered off the freeway, went up an embankment, struck a tree and overturned.
