Navy Officer

This is an area for Navy Officers. This is not the enlisted to officer programs area which is in a separate category up above. Even though this website was built for the enlisted, we have always had officers join up to contribute information and files or to read up on the latest Navy news. Let's see if we can return the favor.

In this area I will post specific items that may be of interest to Officers of the United States Navy.

    • The Trump administration spent at least $21 million transporting migrants to Guantanamo Bay on military aircraft between January 20 and April 8, according to figures provided to Congress by the U.S. military. The naval base there currently holds 32 migrants, according to a defense official, a tiny fraction of the 30,000 that President Donald Trump promised. Guantanamo has held a total of just under 500 migrants since Trump announced the effort in January, and it has never held more than 200 at any one time. Many of the migrants flown there are believed to have been flown back to the U.S.
    • The Barrio Logan VFW Post is urging Chula Vista police to release the video of a veteran being shot and killed.
    • A U.S. Navy officer has been charged with killing his wife, six months after she was found strangled to death inside a hotel room in Japan. Monroe, NY-native Jessica “Jesse” Arguinzoni Olsen was found dead on Oct. 27 inside a room in the Hotel SOL in Fukuoka — about 80 miles from Sasebo Naval Base, where her husband, Lt. Commander Christopher Olsen, was stationed between November 2022 and December 2023.
    • WASHINGTON—Russ Vought, President Trump’s top budget official, is looking to lock in many of Elon Musk’s cost-cutting efforts once the billionaire CEO steps aside from government. A key part of his plan: steamrolling Congress. Vought, the director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, has already drawn the ire of Republican national security hawks by insisting that military spending receive increases only through a procedure known as budget reconciliation, as opposed to the annual budget. Aside from the reconciliation spending, the White House budget blueprint proposed maintaining military spending at current budget levels of $892.6 billion.
    • Donald Trump has been president (for the second time) for more than 100 days. And in that time has reportedly shown a troubling lack of regard for his daily intelligence briefings. Trump has reportedly sat for just 12 “daily” briefings since his second term began in January—an eyebrow-raising drop from the already infrequent schedule of his first time in office, POLITICO reports.
