A day before HII, one of America’s largest shipbuilders, reported strong second-quarter 2024 earnings, Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the U.S. Navy’s Chief of Naval Operations, paid a visit to HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding. At the Newport News, Virginia shipyard, the Admiral revealed “a new contract incentive” that will allow HII to build a new dormitory and a quality-of-life building for sailors detailed to refitting Los Angeles-class submarines. The Admiral also reviewed previously announced plans for a new, $120 million parking deck and a $78 million office building that America’s cash-strapped Navy is, somehow, paying HII to build.
