Trouble In U.S. Navy? Erik Raven, 2nd-Highest Ranking Civilian, Quits

In a sign of potential problems within the U.S. Department of Navy, Carlos Del Toro, the Secretary of the Navy, abruptly announced that Erik Raven, the U.S. Navy’s second-highest ranking civilian, is departing in August. The Navy’s failure to simultaneously announce a replacement nominee or even appoint an “acting” deputy, suggests Raven’s departure to, as a Navy public affairs officer told USNI News, “pursue other opportunities and to also focus on family,” was unanticipated.
