A sailor assigned to the Los Angeles-class submarine USS Chicago and his wife, both who have been living in Bremerton, were killed in a fatal crash on Friday at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Toll Plaza.

Around 2 p.m., a white 2008 Ford Explorer, driving eastbound on Highway 16 and approaching the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Toll Plaza, crossed two lanes of traffic and struck a black 2017 Chevrolet Sonic, which was driving the same direction toward the booth. The Chevrolet hit an guardrail and came to rest at one of the booths, while the Ford stopped after passing through the toll plaza, according to Washington State Patrol.
