RMKS/1.  The Safety Excellence Awards annually recognize Navy and Marine 
Corps units for unparalleled safety achievements which are a testament to the 
commitment and tenacity of our service professionals as they remain focused 
on executing their mission safely.  We learn from their examples of 
excellence and one from another to improve the safety and health of our Navy 
and Marine Corps team.

2.  It is my distinct pleasure to announce the following winners:
    a.  Afloat:  USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101)
    b.  Ashore:  U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional 
Maintenance Center
    c.  Aviation:  Training Squadron TWO (VT-2)
    d.  Expeditionary:  1st Marine Logistics Group
    e.  Safety Integration in Acquisition:  Program Manager Ground Based Air 
Defense Safety Team

3.  These units have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to mission 
readiness and disciplined decision making.  Safety and risk management are 
indispensable to executing our mission whether at home or forward deployed.
