VA launches national PACT Act Summer VetFest to encourage Veterans and survivors to apply for new health care and benefits

WASHINGTON — In July, VA will kick off PACT Act Summer VetFest to inform Veterans, their families, and survivors about the PACT Act and encourage them to apply for the health care and benefits they have earned. The PACT Act, which President Biden signed into law on Aug. 10, 2022, is the biggest expansion of Veteran health care and benefits in generations.

Throughout July, VA will host 50+ Summer VetFest events across all 50 states, DC, and Puerto Rico. The events will be casual summer gatherings featuring Veterans, their families, Veteran advocates, and the VA health care and benefits professionals who serve them. At the events, VA staff will be ready to help Veterans apply for PACT Act-related benefits (or submit an intent to file), enroll in VA health care, get screened for toxic exposures, and more.

      The sudden arrival of mirror-like coatings on all of America's stealthy tactical jets (F-22, F-35, F-117) definitely grabbed a lot of interest starting in late 2021 and appeared repeatedly through 2022 in various forms. But all the known instances of combat aircraft receiving these exotic treatments, which are thought to decrease the signature of the aircraft, most likely in the infrared spectrum, have been on examples flying for testing purposes, although the concept dates back decades. Now, one F-35C that was operating aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln off the California coast has appeared this week with similar coatings.

      We Might Have Just Seen the World's First Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile Attack

      U.S. Navy destroyer Mason (DDG-87) was wrapping up a mission rescuing a tanker from pirates in the Gulf of Aden when the situation sharply escalated. The ship’s radar detected at least one—or possibly two—missiles moving toward its position at supersonic speeds, each loaded with well over a half-ton of explosives. The day before, Liberian-flagged tanker M/V Central Park—stuffed full of phosphoric acid—had issued a distress call after reportedly being boarded by unknown armed assailants 35 miles south of Yemen’s coast and 50 miles east of Djibouti. Central Park’s crew of 22 took shelter in the vessel’s ‘citadel’, an armored panic room.

      Navy fires Amphibious Squadron 5 commodore

      Capt. James Harney was relieved as commodore of Amphibious Squadron 5 Friday, roughly six months after he assumed command of the unit, according to a brief Navy statement released Friday night.
