FY 15 Chief Selection Board

Recommended Posts

Just another friendly reminder that after results hit the street, selectees are invited to join the selectee forum. Access is very simple; just PM me and I will verify your selectee status and notify Tony. If I ask further questions, don't take it personal. It's just to make sure we have only CPOs and selectees. I have a feeling we will have lots of selectees here as always. Good luck to all.

Nope. I have seen lots of 8 year Chiefs around. Btw, I am also an example. I made in 9.5. Relax.

There are a lot of 7-9 year chiefs and I had the pleasure of serving a long side with a 14 year CMC it can happen I believe age maturity and the old saying at the right place at the right time has a lot to do with that. I was 18 when I came in and at my 4-7 year mark I was all about the rock star life just happy to get a paycheck!!

I just hope that a good buddy of mine makes it this time. He has made board 5 times and every time he gets the sorry think about next year. He has his Master Training Specialist this year though. No Safe for flight which for us aviation types that is the thing. I have my SFF so hopefully we both make it. This wait is killing me. lol

The AMEC I work for made it last cycle without SFF, I'd have to ask him again but I don't think he did QA either.  He did run the Line I think that's part of what pushed him over the top.  He is currently working on his SFF now.  I was in Afghanistan with an AM1 that made it first time up last cycle, he was an instructor in "A" school, he had never been an LPO, or SFF.  I'm not saying SFF doesn't help, but from what I've seen from people who I know that have made it SFF in those 2 cases didn't matter.  So for your buddy his chances look decent depending on the quotas for his rate.

Out of curiosity does anyone know what time the next day the results would post online, after command notification?  I work mid check so I'd be at home asleep when the command get's the list, so would I get to see the list before they all come to work the next day since I'd be at work the morning of public release.  Or is it more of a someone in millington pushes the list when they come to work the next day?

It's supposed to be 24 hr after triad release so basically their saying "Ok CO, we are giving you 24 hrs to do your thing." I believe for reserves it was more than 24 hrs though. Some hiccups I assume.

I think the sure fire ticket for Airframers is LPO, SFF, full systems along with all the other volunteer and SSP. SFF seems to be the make or break. Any input on this????

I'm hoping Production Controller is the equivalent shore duty side as SFF this board. I have SSP, W/C LPO, Division LPO, Collaterals, and college. SFF won't kick in until next years board. I hope It won't come to that.

PC should count since your at AIMD, but like I stated earlier I've known 2 people that made it last cycle without SFF and both were first time up.  It could just be that last cycle for aviation they weren't putting points on SFF.  I've always been told they look at different things every board so having SFF might push you over one year, but next year the hopefulls that have SFF don't get the extra nudge.

I have lpo of 56, dual full systems, vice, MOVSM, 5 nam, caco, eaws coord, hyd cont, t/w, phase coord, jpme, ppme, 2 college, ep-ep-ep-p-mp-ep. SFF is all that's left.

I had a dream last night that the results were out... Woke up before I found out if I got that S. Is it bad that I'm dreaming about it now?

I also dreamt they were out and I didn't make it. Part of me was disappointed but another part was relieved the wait was over. Still, I was very happy when I woke up and it was all a dream!

Wow, hard to believe you haven't made it yet. But I know the last few years has been rough on ITS's. Good luck, hopefully this is your year!

Same here but I figure the 2008 eval that made me look like a douche was the culprit. First eval after a NOB for just reporting being a P is probably causing the board some worries about me. Since then I would hope either they see the trend of SSP increasing from that point or they just don't look that far back. Either way I would be happy.

I agree about the board looking at different things. As an FC, there's certain quals that are expected for an FC1. I know an FC1 that picked up in 11' w/o CSC or LPO at sea, but I honestly believe being in Dahlgren gives you a leg up in the fleet if you are performing at a high level. When I went thru AWS in 12' I believe it was 9 or 10 FC1s pick up FCC at that command. That's more than 10% of all selectees. I should've went to Dahlgren.

I've known conventional FC's to pick up w/o CSOOW or SUWC :P crazy right?

Almost every FC1 I've served on a ship with were at least CSOOW qual'd. Conventional usually go the SUWC route too, but I've seen a few CSCs. I got AAWC on deployment last yr and will probably start working on SUWC just because I don't really have any quals to pursue. I had a hard charging 2nd class that got CSC qual'd and wanted to get Air. The rest of the chain of command wanted him to do it, but I asked him what would he do when he made First? I never want to shut anyone down, but I do believe that you can do too much to early. Right now I honestly do not have any quals to pursue. I pretty much just do whatever qual I feel like doing just because. For example, I'm dept 3MA. What the point of getting Dept head qual'd. I already do more than a Dept Head 3M wise?

Why shut him down? Maybe chief isn't the right way for him, perhaps he wants to hit first and apply for LDO... Or make first and try to get his underway OOD letter, or EOOW. That's the BEST thing about the navy... that there's no cookie cutter path, everyone can push their hardest and end up in different places. As for your situation: why get dept head qualified? Because you can. I've been in for 11yrs and have been an FC for 6 of them. I'm not CSOOW, SUWC, or anything other than TTWCS qualed. Now, of those six years only two were on a ship, and i was a fc2 at that, I didn't push as hard as I could at csoow because I honestly thought I knew so much that I didn't even need the qual. Guess what the board DOESNT see? That little entry on your page 4 makes a big difference IMO. It's another way for them to validate their opinion of you. Had I done things a little differently I wouldn't be sitting on the outside looking in this year with awesome evals, duty stations, and awards but no quals....

My prediction has been, and still is, Wednesday Triad notification with full results on Thursday. That would mean NAC will give the obligatory 48 hour 'check your BOL login' message today.... This is gonna be a LONG day!

We could see NAC notification of the results' release timeframe as early as today... come to think of it, we could see release as early as today!

I have that dream almost every night

Luckily, I don't have that dream, but last night I dreamt I was walking and flying around the ship as Ironman... What does that mean? BBb)
