According to the latest press release, the Navy reported that with the decommissioning of the littoral combat ship USS “Fort Worth”—identified as an operational and testing platform—“the Navy is redirecting investments toward modernizing the remaining LCS inventory with enhanced capabilities.” From the beginning of their service with the Navy, the ships of the LCS Program exhibited technical and operational deficiencies and limitations, a situation that led to the early retirement of several units due to their operational unsustainability and maintenance costs.
