USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) has begun its final chapter, departing Philadelphia for Brownsville, Texas to be dismantled after museum plans failed to secure funding, berthing, and long-term upkeep. The move highlights why retired carriers are sold for one cent: towing, docking, hazardous-material handling, and regulated shipbreaking make them expensive liabilities despite their size and history.
