Donald Edward Keyhoe was born in 1897, at a time when human flight was still experimental. By the time he reached adulthood, aviation had become a defining feature of modern warfare and national power. Keyhoe graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and went on to serve as an officer and aviator in the U.S. Marine Corps.
