  1. Try to rest everyone and take it easy. I still remember resting that night I got selected. I still was woken up by my CO with the good news. What helped me get at-ease was my mentor who provided some good words that said (not exactly verbatim, but I hope you get the point), "You are an amazing Sailor and will be surprised if you ain't selected. But remember, there are a lot of amazing Sailors in the fleet. Be proud of those who were selected and if you don't get selected, it's ok cuz the Navy just got a bunch of OUTSTANDING Chiefs and that's an amazing addition to the mess! Be proud of the bigger picture and stay the course".

Hey thanks for the feedback. The only odd thing is my NJP was not filed under a FC-38 (I don’t have any in my record) I have a PG13(FC-32) my

eval addresses it, and my awards PG has my good cookie restart, and that’s all the documents on that.

Well that's interesting. The only advice I can give you is be ok with what you put in your LTB. Don't feel like you will have regrets whether you address or not. Make your best decision and stick with it. Because there is no worst feeling then getting the N and telling yourself, "If I did it differently, maybe I would've gotten an S". Make your best decision and be ok with that. There is no right or wrong here. We all have to make decisions in regards to our career all the time, what makes us strive to do better is being good with the outcome.

Hey forum! Looking for some guidance. This is my 3rd time up for Chief, and I believe my only detractor is my NJP from 2012. I know it’s well outside the 5 year mark; however, I’m wondering if it’s worth addressing on my LTB. Any advice or gtg career summary’s etc would be helpful.

PERS-8 discussed this directly back in 2018. All adverse information FC-38 will be addressed in the tank as it is required. Though adverse information past 5 years will have a lesser impact to your SSP, it will still be addressed. There is nothing wrong with letting the board know in you LTB how you overcame it.  It's good to let them know you own it and improved, especially if it's within the last 5 years. The other option is to leave it alone and let your record speak for itself to how you overcame it. At the end of the day it's your package and whether you choose to address it or not is up to you.

Those are awesome stats! I need to look into the Officer PPME, was it much longer than the Enlisted / Joint versions?

I think posts like this are really valuable for prospective LDO's or Chiefs. This kind of stuff gives Sailors a idea of what they should shoot for (and hopefully more!) to be competitive. My LDO mentor introduced me to this forum and Air Warriors back when I was an E4 and it's been a great resource, though for the vast majority of that time I was just a silent lurker here.

Thanks! As for the Officer PPME, I think it was just a little bit longer then the others. I can't fully remember. But I'm not sure if it's still available on e-learning. If so it definitely a great course to do.

I've been a lurker until 2018 as well. Lots of great info. And I agree, showing stats really does allow us to see where we all are to this point. But not only that, posting stats helps the future applicants see the trend as well for their future endeavors. So let's all start posting stats and give future applicants a good understanding of the FY21 LDO/CWO ISPB applicants!

Gotta find ways to help pass the time until results come out!

Before I was eligible I would occasionally come here and read the years LDO thread where people would sometimes post their "stats" to see if they were competitive. I remember seeing some really stacked career histories that I would kind of use as a benchmark as I came up the ranks.

I know what counts as competitive is different for every designator but this is a highlight of what I have put together over the years:

    • SoY x2
    • SoQ x3
    • JSoQ x2
    • BJoQ x1
    • College Credits: 96 (didn't submit my most up to date transcripts this time because I am an idiot, but the board will still see 60 of my credits)
    • Certs: Sec+/Net+
    • PPME/SEJPME Complete
    • MoVSM x2
    • NAM x4 (3 spot/impact)
    • COM x1
    • Fully qualified in my enlisted rate + have all applicable warfare pins
    • Aforementioned LORs x2

Eval  history is generally very strong with lots of relevant technical and leadership write-ups. I've helped produce 3x JSoY, 2x BJoY, 5x JSoQ, and  2x BJoQ subordinates. Last ranked evaluation was #1 of a medium sized peer group.

This is my first time applying as a just hit the time in service requirements to submit a package. My mentors have mentioned that for most people it takes several attempts.

I hear ya. So I'll jump in on this:

    - Awards: SOQ x2, JSOQ, NAM x6, FLOC x3, MOVSM

-Quals: ATTWO, Chief of the Guard, Gun Liason Officer, CFL, Hazmat Certifier, IDPC, and in-rate quals

    - Primary duties: Acting DLCPO ship (as a PO1) x2 evals, Acting DIV LCPO shore (as a PO1), current DIV LCPO on shore.

Education: 58 college credits, Officer PPME, Enlisted PPME, JPME

Collaterals: FCPOA President x2 (ship and shore), Diversity Committee President, CCC, ACFL, SAPR, VITA rep, ATTT, Command Indoc Coordinator

Evals trend: above RSCA past 5 years with break-outs.

First time applying as well. Thought it would be my last until I found out they accept waivers up to 6 months and not a day more. Hoping to get it this time around. The process from start to finish is brutal lol

Do we have any info on why they decided to keep the quotas close to the chest this year?

It's strange to look at https://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/boards/administrative/ldo_cwo/Documents/FY21/FY-21 Discrete Requirements (Active).pdf and see enclosures 1 and 2 just missing without any explanation.

I kinda wrote about it in my previous post. Nuclear board just started. All members (including nukes) are listed on one enclosure same for the quotas. Releasing the membership and quotas now will allow all nuclear applicants to know that information prior to the board wrapping up. As for why they are holding the information beyond that, not sure.

Does anyone know where I can find the nuclear board precepts?

I know, I know, I’m the oddball here, but i would like to see it and it isn’t located where the only other precept for nuclear board is currently located.

The nuclear board started yesterday as a virtual board, I think, and I am trying to see if any of the documents have been put out yet!

The precepts that is currently posted on NPC covers for all active duty and reserve to include nuclear applicants. The full precepts (with memberships) and quotas used to be be provided after the ldo board convened or adjourned. This has been changing the last few years for many reasons. But the nuclear board has just convened (Jan 28) so they haven't provided the membership/quotas to avoid having the nuclear applicants know who and what the quota is before the board finished. As to why they are gonna wait to publish that information until the results are out are beyond my paygrade. But one thing is for sure, the information will be provided between when the nuclear board is adjourned and when the results come out.

  8. I had two LORs submitted. One from my prior CO and the other was my prior DH both at different commands. It never hurts to say more, especially if your record is already good. To me it's all about that little extra edge because there is alot of awesome Sailors around the world doing great things in our navy. Tough competition is out there. And also, didn't want any doubts in my mind I presented the best full picture of me to the board I can cuz blk 43 is limited only to 18 lines. Just saying

copy paste from last year and every year before. 732X leaves so much open for interpretation.

I hear yeah. Same here no changes from the previous year.

On another note, 651x has a phrase that I still can't get an answer on. In the discrete requirements it says "applicant's entire record (evals/awards) should highlight superior communication, technical expertise..." Usually the board goes back 5 years, but under designator 651x, members go all the way back. I have yet to find anyone who is willing to confirm whether this is the case or not. I'll hear things like board members will go back past 5 years if the competition is tough but nothing 651x related.

Sorry I should of been more clear, I was trying to find how many people submitted an application for specific designators for FY-20. This information isnt on NPC as far as I can tell, someone posted the imagine on the FY-20 thread on pg 1.

For stats on FY20 LDO/CWO ISPB: https://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/officer/communitymanagers/active/ldo_cwo/Documents/LDO and CWO Recruiting Brief.pptx

On slides 21 & 22 you will find some data that you were inquiring about.

  11. Got it! Thanks

I know exactly what you are talking about. The CO endorsement previously was not an “endorsement”, but rather a part of the entire application. And if it was an enclosure to the package, different rules apply. Straight out of chapter 9 of the correspondence manual:

”3. Adding References. Do not repeat a reference in the reference line of your endorsement that has already been identified in the reference line of the basic letter or a previous endorsement. Identify only the references that you add. Assign a letter to all references you add by continuing the sequence of letters from the basic letter and previous endorsements. For example, if the basic letter and previous endorsements had references identified up to letter “f,” the first reference of your endorsement would be letter “g.””

    Got it. Thanks man!

  12. 43 minutes ago, subguy10524 said:

If you read the correspondence manual on endorsements it is supposed to be that way. You start with the next letter if you need a new reference. I had the same question.

What I'm getting at is before there used to be 3 references in the CO's endorsements: NAVADMIN, 1420.1b, and 6110.1j. But this year the COs endorsement is only one ref, the 6110.1j, based off the word documents provided on the npc website. Are the other references no longer required since it's referenced on the member's cover letter only? Probably nuking this, just wanted to see if anyone else saw what I did.

How are you guys handling the personal statement? Lots of asked for content with only 250 words. I am struggling!

Struggling the past few weeks. Finally got a statement that really reflects who I am in exactly 250 words lol. On another note, the FY21 Application Instruction and FY21LDO CWO Application word document is confusing in regards to references. It only show "Ref: (c) OPNAVINST 6110.1J" on CO's endorsements and no other. I'm not sure if this was typo omitting the previous 2 references or not. I was wondering what everyone else is doing with that portion of the COs endorsement. Hopefully someone got some answers.

I think this question has been asked but how do you think the board views SOY, dont even say it's a golden ticket because I've seen guys not make it with SOY.

I believe it all comes down to how the evaluation for that SOY is written. Is that person Sailor of the Year because of the 10 collaterals he filled and 500 volunteer hours? Is he SOY because of who he trained, his technical expertise, and sailorizarion? Or both? At the end of the day I know SOY will get you something on the board, but what most matters is have you had sustained superior performance in every area of your LADR and more. Sometimes SOY Sailor is great at one command and not others. Many variables go into this. In all honesty, I've seen Sailors not get picked up who had SOY, but many get picked up without it. Hope this helps

I have a RSCA question. I have been 1 of 1 for 3 years straight because I was on independent duty with the Marines. I’m not an IDC but as FTS we have to go to Marine I-I duty billets as a staff member at Reserve level company billets. I was twice at the RSCA at (one a 4.0 EP and one a 4.14 EP) since the Marine O’s hadn’t established one yet (2 different reporting seniors in back to back years) one was an O-5 and one an O-3 🤦🏻‍♂️, then I got a 1 of 1 EP a 4.43 with a new reporting Senior but because his RSCA is so inflated for HM evals I was BELOW his RSCA of 4.5. My last eval with the same LtCol was a 4.71 with a 4.5 RSCA. Last year I transferred and got the “new guy P.” I was ranked #3 of 3 sailors (small summary groups are common for FTS HM’s at I-I duty and NOSC billets) with a 4.0 trait avg with a CO that has recently established his RSCA and his RSCA is a 4.14. Even though I have 4 EP’s and a P in my last 5 years worth of evals, I’m wondering if these RSCA “issues” and small summary groups were detractors on the board. Besides this I’ve hit all the wickets and have (in my opinion) very good SSP. Thoughts?

Being ranked 1 of 1 is a difficult position to be in. The board will understand the high rsca, but it will be difficult to determine how you ranked against previous PO1s as you and the other HM1s were ranked high based off his rsca. The only thing I would hope is that your write up doesn't just say how amazing you are, but also have some comparisons between his E6 equivalent personnel and how he would compare you to them. Things like best addition to my team I've seen in my xx military career. Performs above and beyond the standards I have set forth for my staff sgts. Would be #1 if ranked against my staff sgts. The best HM1 I've seen in my entire military career of service in the Marine corps. Comments like this go a long way.
