The Pentagon’s inspector general has received evidence that the military plans shared from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s Signal account to a group chat earlier this year were taken from a US Central Command document that was marked classified at the time, according to two people familiar with the ongoing review.

Throughout his tenure, he championed efforts to make Sailors stronger, smarter, and better valued—both through direct engagement with Sailors and their families, and through strategic advocacy on Capitol Hill. His collaborative work with Congress and Department of Defense policy makers contributed to significant legislative achievements and quality of life impacts, including a historic 15 percent pay increase for junior enlisted ranks (E-1 to E-4), as well as improvements in unaccompanied housing, medical care, spouse employment, and childcare services. Within the Navy, MCPON Honea drove initiatives to enhance enlisted leadership development, naval education, and performance evaluations—highlighted by the recent update to the Chief Petty Officer evaluation system earlier this year. “Since 1775, the United States Navy has been operating forward to defend our nation and defeat those who challenge our freedom. Every one of you embody the fighting spirit, honoring the legacy of those who came before you. As I embark on the next chapter of my life, I will forever cherish the impact you’ve had on me and look forward to crossing paths with you again in the Fleet.”

Scott Gray, Commander, Navy Installations Command, and Force Master Chief Andre Brown, CNIC’s senior enlisted leader, were key participants, emphasizing the command's commitment to integrating the invaluable perspectives of senior enlisted leaders into its strategic planning, and warfighting mission. “Our installations are not just physical locations; they are the strategic launchpads for our Fleet, foundational to warfighting readiness,” said Vice Adm. Gray. “By aligning our base operations with Fleet priorities and empowering our leaders on the ground, we ensure the Navy remains agile, resilient, and prepared to meet any challenge, anywhere in the world.” The symposium served as a direct demonstration of CNIC’s ownership and proactive approach to managing the Navy’s global Shore Enterprise.
