    • YOKOSUKA, Japan – The commanding officer, the executive officer and the command master chief of U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC) were relieved June 3, 2026, due to a loss of confidence in their ability to command. Rear Adm. Dan Lannamann, commander of Navy Regional Maintenance Center (CNRMC), relieved Capt. Wendel Penetrante, Capt. Edwin Catubig and Master Chief Petty Officer Thomas Howell of duties as SRF-JRMC commanding officer, executive officer and command master chief, respectively. Capt. John Bauer, Supervisor of Salvage and Diving, has temporarily assumed the duties of SRF-JRMC commanding officer. Cmdr. David Reinhardt, waterfront operations officer, has temporarily assumed the duties of SRF-JRMC executive officer. Master Chief Petty Officer David Marcus, CNRMC command master chief, has temporarily assumed the duties of SRF-JRMC command master chief. There is no impact to the command’s mission as a result of these reliefs. SRF-JRMC is located in Yokosuka, Japan, and provides intermediate-level and depot-level repair for Navy ships and U.S. 7th Fleet.
    • NCIS says Alexander Schlageter, a sailor assigned to the USS Ted Stevens, has been missing since May 29 from Naval Station Norfolk.
    • With 4,600 sailors finally home, USS Gerald R. Ford will finally receive some much needed repairs and an upgrade to its beleaguered sewage system. The country's newest aircraft carrier undertook an eight-month maiden voyage in January 2024, swiftly followed by a nearly 11-month deployment. That is longer than any carrier had been away since the Vietnam War. It is expected to go into maintenance at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Norfolk, Va.
    • Midway through the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee’s May 20 hearing on the VA’s advance budget request, Sen. Angus King (I-ME) pressed VA Secretary Doug Collins on his view of the future of veterans’ health care. Every net increase in Collins’s FY2028 advance appropriations request was earmarked for care delivered by private-sector providers. To King, the intention seemed unmistakable: a plan “to gradually privatize VA health care coverage.”
    • As Economist reporter Shashank Joshi highlighted from the report in a post to X, Hegseth also appeared to break protocols when he pushed for his own personal assistant to be added to the one-star admiral list, despite the fact that he had previously been deemed "ineligible" due to his lack of necessary experience.
