    • The U.S. Navy responded to a letter from congressional leaders that voiced serious concerns about the service’s handling of an investigation into a Naval Station Norfolk sailor’s disappearance and death. Members of Congress sent a letter July 10 to Secretary of the Navy John Phelan criticizing the chain of command’s response to the disappearance and death of Culinary Specialist Seaman Angelina Resendiz.
    • The U.S. Navy will construct new housing at a Guam Air Force base, the Navy announced Wednesday, several months after an independent government watchdog reported on subpar living conditions in the base’s barracks. The Navy awarded a $297 million contract to Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Pacific to design and build replacement housing units at Andersen Air Force Base by December 2028, according to a Navy release.

The tRump administration has dictated the use of South Jersey’s Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to hold immigrant detainees. It’s the latest move in the administration’s plan to conduct mass deportations of undocumented immigrants by expanding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel and facilities.
    • Pictures released to WHRO by the mother of a sailor serving on board the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford shows backed up toilets and waste spilt onto the floor. The problem became worse over the course of a week onboard the aircraft carrier, which left Norfolk on June 24, she said.
