I am a USN veteran putting together a shadow box for my dad who was a Vietnam Era sailor. He enlisted at 26, served aboard 2 different ships, and got out when he was 30. He said he was an East Coast sailor the entire 4 years. I have the flag off his casket and the shell casings from his salute as well as some other items from his time in the Navy.
My question is about his ribbons he has both an Army and a Navy Good Conduct. How and why would that happen? As far as I know he was never in the Army.
He also has a National Defense, Antarctic Service, and Armed Forces Expeditionary.
I would be grateful for any explanation I could get. He never talked about his service, except for his liberty stories, and from those stories I wouldn't have expected even a Good Conduct!
