US aircraft carrier in Vietnam for historic visit aimed at Beijing

Danang, Vietnam (CNN)For the first time since the end of the Vietnam War more than four decades ago, a US Navy aircraft carrier will set anchor in the country Monday.

Publicly, the United States has portrayed the four-day visit by the USS Carl Vinson and its contingent of 5,000 sailors and aviators as an historic opportunity to enhance the budding friendship that has emerged between the two former foes. https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/03/asia/vietnam-us-uss-vinson-intl/index.html

      WASHINGTON — A federal judge revoked the pretrial release for a Navy reservist awaiting trial on charges stemming from the Jan. 6 Capitol riot last week following his conviction in Virginia for possessing unregistered silencers. U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden ordered Hatchet Speed, of McLean, Virginia, back into custody on Friday after a jury in the Eastern District of Virginia convicted him earlier this month of possessing multiple silencers disguised to look like cleaning supplies.
